A Good Quality Aneroid Barometer, c. 1880, French for the English market, engraved to the rear 'Leuchar's 38 Piccadilly, London' in heavy gilt-brass case, with blind fret and engraved decoration, silvered dial divided to 1/50th inch, weather predictions labelled in English, below 'Holosteric Barometer 2696'. Height measures 18cm.Note: Pressure tested and workingLeuchars was established at 47 Piccadilly, London in 1794 by James Leuchars. In 1820, the business moved to 38 Piccadilly shortly before James Leuchars died in 1823.Lucy Leuchars, James’ widow, continued the business under the name of L. Leuchars. In 1837, the same year as Queen Victoria came to the throne, the firm was awarded the Royal Warrant for their supply of dressing cases to the royal family.Expanding to 39 Piccadilly in 1841, the name had now changed to Lucy Leuchars & Son; the ‘Son’ referring to William Leuchars. After Lucy’s death in 1847, William gained sole responsibility for the business. Leuchars exhibited and won prize medals for his dressing cases at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and the International Exhibition of 1862, winning a further silver medal at the International Exposition of 1867 in Paris.In 1870, under the name of Leuchars & Son, William Leuchars along with his son, also called William, opened a further shop at 2 Rue de la Paix in Paris. When William Sr died in 1871, William Jr took control of the business, later winning a gold medal for their dressing cases at the International Exposition of 1878 in Paris.In 1884, Leuchars moved their existing manufactory from 31 Gerrard Street, Soho, London to 8 Sherwood Street, Golden Square, London.William Jr finally agreed to sell the business, along with their Sherwood Street manufactory, to Asprey in 1888. Leuchars continued to trade from their 38 & 39 Piccadilly address until 1902.

Royal Air Force Officers Service Dress Tunic Attributed to Squadron Leader J T B Keats, fine example of a four pocket officers tunic with brass Kings crown tunic buttons. Medal ribbons above breast pocket for WW1 and WW2 service. Rank lace to the cuffs. Interior officer lined and with tailors label to the inside pocket having typed name and 1941 date.
Great War Uniform Grouping of Major Richard Watkin Richards MC Royal Welsh Fusiliers, fine untouched grouping consisting of his original 1915 dated cuff rank tunic with bronze officers regimental collar badges above bronze territorial T’s. Name label and date 1915 to the inside of the breast pocket. Officers regimental tunic buttons to the pockets, front and shoulders. The tunic cuffs with rank lace, leather trim and majors crowns. Large lower pockets to the tunic, typical of WW1 cuff ranks. To the lower sleeve of one arm is bullion embroidered wound stripe. Stitch marks to the collar where regimental black tallies were once present. Accompanying the cuff rank is a 1917 pattern shoulder rank tunic constructed from a whip cord material. Regimental brass buttons to the front, pockets and shoulders. Bronze regimental collar badges. Above breast pocket is medal ribbons for the Military Cross and 1914-15 star. To each shoulder is embroidered Majors rank crowns and black tallies regimental distinction stitched to collar. Lower sleeve with bullion embroidered wound stripe. Fine condition cloth lining with lower shell dressing pocket. The last tunic in the grouping is another 1917 pattern shoulder rank with brass regimental buttons, regimental tally ribbons to collar but missing regimental collar badges and any rank insignia. This tunic does however still have the same embroidered wound stripe and clear evidence where medal ribbons have been removed from breast. Accompanying the tunics is an original typed order, to at this point, “Captain R W Richards 4th Att 9th R.W.F, Please note that you are detailed to report to OC NO 2 Anti-Aircraft section camp today for temporary duty as Machine Gun officer.” All tunics have some scattered moth damage. Accompanied by copies of his medal index card. At the time of going to press we have not been able to confirm a London Gazette date for the Military Cross, however the award is stated on his MIC and medal ribbons to the tunic. Cuff rank for Colonel. Bronze Royal Warwickshire regiment officers collar badges and bronze territorial T’s. Medal ribbons above breast pocket for WW1 service and Indian Distinguished Service medal. Cloth lined interior with lower wound dressing pocket. Tailors label to the interior collar. Very good overall condition.
Victorian Punjab 1848-49 Campaign Medal 24th Regiment of Foot Killed in Action at the Battle of Chilianwala, medal with single clasp Chilianwala and awarded to “G SMITH, 24TH FOOT”. Medal has some contact marks but generally good condition. Three men of this name appear on the roll for the 24th Foot, however only one with single clasp Chilianwala. Private George Smith was killed at the Battle of Chilianwala with the 24th Regiment of Foot.
Great War Military Medal (M.M) Group of Four 2nd Battalion Welsh Regiment, Complete with Archive of Photographs and Trench Written Diaries, the group consists of George V Military Medal (M.M) “6907 SJT C MACK 2/WELSH R”, 1914 star with bar “6907 L.SJT C MACK 2/WELSH R”, British War and Victory medals “2LIEUT C MACK”. MID bronze oak leaf to the ribbon of the allied victory medal. The medals have been court mounted for display. Accompanying the medal group is a archive of original photographs showing his service during the great war and post WW1 in India, handwritten diaries covering the period 1915-1918, giving details of his day to day life service and action etc. Cornelius Mack served as a stretcher bearer with “C” Company 2nd Battalion The Welsh Regiment. He was later commissioned into the regiment serving with them throughout the rest of the Great War and later in India. He was wounded during WW1.

Historically and Regimentally Important WW2 Service Dress Tunic Attributed to Colonel Leslie Reginald Hulls Military Cross & Bar, Gordon Highlanders, The Only British Soldiers To Escape From Being Prisoner of War in Both First and Second World Wars, khaki doublet service dress tunic with officers Gordon Highlanders regimental tunic buttons, red gorget collar patches, rank insignia to the shoulders, above the breast pocket is medal ribbons of Military Cross with rosette, 1914 star, British 1914-18 war medal, Allied Victory medal with MID oak leaf, 1939-45 star and three foreign orders. Tailors label to the inside of the collar with inked name. Tunic shows some service wear and medal ribbons have frayed. First enlisted in the 14th London Regiment in 1914 before being promoted to Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion of the Gordon Highlanders and then later into the Machine Gun Corps. He also had a short commission in the Royal Naval Vounteer Reserve as a Sub Lieutenant with the Armoured Car Squadrons in North Russia. He was captured by the Turkish forces and escaped at Djongy, then being imprisoned by the Georgians at Tiflis. Became the British Military Liaison officer to the Georgian government at Tiflis. At the outbreak of WW2, he was called up and served as an Intelligence officer with 153rd Brigade, 51st Highland Division. He was again captured in May 1940 St Valery-en-Caux, France but escaped from captivity along with Commander Elkins Royal Navy, they sailed from Lion-sur-Mere on 23rd/24th June 1940. He served as Liaison officer, No30 and No26 British Military Missions in Russia (July 1941-April1943). He was Military Assistant to General Anders, Commander in Chief of the Polish Army in the East (April – August 1943), Civil Affairs Staff School, Cairo (September 1943-early 1944); as Director, Italian Refugee Branch, Allied Control Commission (1944-45); as Director of North German Oil Control and subsequently Oil Branch, Control Commission, British and US zones of Germany, 1945-49.
Scarce Badges and Insignia Grouping Relating to a Royal Naval Officer Serving with the British Naval Mission to Colombia 1934-39, consisting of bullion embroidered officers cap badge in the form of anchor within wreath and eagle above, British made officers gilt metal waist belt clasp, wire woven naval cap tally for M.C. ANTIOQUIA, various naval tunic buttons with the same insignia as the buckle, various medal ribbons and fibre identity tag for Lieutenant Commander Neville David Watts-Russell. In the 1930’s Colombia was involved in a border dispute with Peru. As a result the Colombian government had to establish a naval force quickly and so asked Britain for help. Two British build destroyers destined for the Portuguese navy were acquires, one of these being the Antioquia. Due to lack of trained naval personnel in Columbia, a force of 200 officers and ratings from the Royal Navy formed a task force to train and help man the vessels, this force was scaled down each year. It is believed out of the 200 men from the Royal Navy, only 25 were officer rank.

Naval General Service and WW2 Campaign Medal Group of Seven, consisting of George VI Naval General Service medal with single clasp Palestine 1936-1939 “K.56965 J K COLLIER S.P.O R.N”, 1939-45 star, Atlantic star, Africa star, Defence medal, 1939-45 War medal and Chile Commemorative medal for crews of HMS Ajax and Exeter. Medals all remain in good condition. The commemorative medal was issued to crew members of HMS Ajax and Exeter for assistance to the people of Chile in 1939 when the largest earthquake in the nations history hit, killing up to 30,000 people.
Great War Allied Victory Medal Royal Naval Division, single medal awarded to “TZ 4435 T PERCIVAL AB RNVR”. Medal generally good condition. Able Seaman Thomas Percival enlisted in the Royal Naval Division in Tyneside in 1915. He had a very eventful career, being held in detention on numerous occasions for desertion, being drunk on duty, improperly dressed, etc. He was also wounded accidently in the arm, side and neck due to a bomb exploding in a reserve trench. Accompanied by photocopied research material.

Army Emergency Reserve and WW1 Medal Group of Five, consisting of British War and Victory medals “CAPT L SMITH-MASTERS”, Defence medal, 1939-45 War medal, Elizabeth II Army Emergency Reserve Decoration with bar having 1954 dated reverse and engraved “MAJOR E L SMITH-MASTERS RE R SIGNALS – FRANCE MESOPOTAMIA N AFRICA UK”. Decoration housed in Royal Mint case. Complete with miniature dress medals.
Royal Air Force Battle Dress Attributed to Wing Commander D W Reid DFC, 1946 dated example in RAF blue grey wool with concealed front buttons. Embroidered padded kings crowns pilots wings above medal ribbons which include the Distinguished Flying Cross and bronze MID oak leaf to the war medal ribbon. RAF rank lace to the shoulder boards. Interior with war service dress label which is dated 1946 and has inked name “D W REID”. Remains in generally good condition. Wing Commander David Wilson Reid was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1940 whilst serving with No 44 Squadron RAF, it appeared in the London Gazette 1st October 1940, the citation was as follows, “One night in September, 1940, this officer successfully carried out a diving-bombing attack on an assembly of barges on Ostend Harbour. On arrival over the target area, he made reconnaissance runs at an altitude of 1,000 feet, during which he carefully selected the most vital parts to attack. He then climbed to 6,000 feet and made a dive attack to 500 feet and obtained direct hits on the target with a stick of eight 250lb bombs. During the preliminary runs and the attack intense anti-aircraft fire seriously damaged his aircraft affecting its controls and shattering the pilots compass and the rear gun hatches. Despite these difficulties Wing Commander Reid pressed home his attack with great determination, courage and skill, showing complete disregard for his personal safety”.
Great War Gallipoli Casualty 1914-15 Star Medal Trio 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, group was awarded to “20389 PTE A COLE WORC R”. Medals remain in good overall condition but with replacement ribbons. Private Alfred Albert Cole was from Evesham, Worcestershire. He enlisted at Pershore on 3rd September 1914. He served at Gallipoli with the regiment from 25th April 1915. He was wounded in action at Gallipoli in June 1915, returning to the line and then killed in action on 6th August 1915. Accompanying the group is a photocopy typed account of the action in which Private Cole was killed.
Edward VII Territorial Force Efficiency Medal 10th County of London Regiment, awarded to “204 PTE H E JOHNSON 10-CO OF LOND R”. Private Johnson was awarded the Territorial Force Efficiency medal on 1st January 1909. He served during WW1 with the 10th London regiment and later Machine Gun Corps.
WW1 French Foreign Legion Full Uniform Display, ex museum built mannequin display of a French other ranks soldier in the Foreign Legion (Legion Etrangere). Made of original and replacement items. Consisting of light weight wool greatcoat with brass buttons to the front. Khaki trousers with yellow stripe to the leg, long puttees and brown leather boots. Mounted to the coat is a three piece French medal group including the colonial medal with Algerie bar. Brown leather waist belt, ammunition pouches and brace straps. Khaki wool forage / side cap with green piping to the curtain and brass flaming grenade badge. Sold with the mannequin. C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd have not removed any item from the mannequin, interested parties should satisfy themselves as to originality of the make up, sold as viewed.
Great War Allied Victory Medal Red Cross Nurse, awarded to “S.NURSE R DAVY”, with newspaper cutting showing image of Miss Rose Davy, stating she was awarded the Royal Red Cross decoration for valuable services with the British Forces in East Africa.
