K. HEWISON - SMITH (M.C.) R.A. and E.R. II. Civil Defence Long Service Medal in case of issue, together with miniature MC, 1939-45, Africa, Italy, France & Germany Stars, Defence, War and Territorial Efficient Service.220277 Lieutenant Kenneth Hewison- Smith.Little is known of Kenneth Hewison-Smith before the War other than he studied various subjects at Clifton College, Bristol.Whilst in the Western Desert Hewison-Smith was reported missing on 21/06/1942 and was later confirmed as an Italian Prisoner of War 21/07/1942, P.O.W. Camp number 21, Chieti Old Convent, postal mark number 3300.After the Italian Armistice of 1943 Hewison-Smith along with many others stayed in the camp when the Italians surrendered, during this time the Germans took over the camp and many were transported by train from Chieti to Sulmona. It was on this journey that Hewison-Smith escaped from the moving train badly injuring his leg in the process. During this time he was helped by several Italian families at great risk to themselves.Included in this lot is Hewison-Smiths fascinating own account of this time entitled Capistrello, along with a large collection of letters and ephemera to include War Office letter to approve the award of the Military Cross, various letters from the families who helped him and press cuttings relating to his time as a P.O.W.https://www.lskauctioncentre.co.uk/news-item/A-Fascinating-WWII-Collection-with-a-film-worthy-story-behind-it/?i=159

A WWII group of six to Flight Lieutenant L. V. W. Dickison R.A.F. including the Air Crew Europe star, the service to New Zealand 1939 - 1945 medal and the Malaya service medal, with the miniature set and a pair of epaulettes Flt. Lieut. Dickison trained as a pilot in New Zealand 1939-1940 before being shipped to Britain via Canada. On the voyage his transport ship hit an iceberg and had to limp back to Halifax, when eventually arriving in Liverpool, he was then sent to the Operational Training Unit at Stratford-On-Avon. Having wanted to be a fighter pilot he was disappointed to be posted to Bomber Command where he flew a Wellington Bomber on night operations over occupied France, Norway and Germany, on March 3rd 1942 his bomber lost one of its engines, when they turned back for Britain they crash landed three miles from the Australian Squadron Airfield in Pockington where he was seriously injured. After a long period of treatment and rehabilitation he finally managed to fly again in Lancaster Four Engine Bombers in daylight and night bombing raids before and after D-Day. Flt. Lieut. Dickison was also a gifted athlete and doctors put his survival down to his standard of health and fitness. (A photocopy of some of his memories and a press cutting accompanies this lot)
Patrick Viera 12x8 signed colour photo in Man city kit. is a French former footballer and current head coach of New York City FC. A former midfielder, Vieira began his career with French club Cannes in 1994. He moved to Italian side A.C. Milan the following season, but was unable to break into the starting line-up, and was subsequently sold. He rose to prominence during a hugely successful spell at Arsenal from 1996 to 2005, where he eventually became club captain, and won three Premier League titles - one unbeaten - and four FA Cup s. He transferred from Arsenal in 2005 and spent one season at Juventus, helping the team to the Serie A championship. Following Juventus' relegation for their part in a match-fixing scandal, Vieira moved to Internazionale and won three Serie A titles, before moving to Manchester City for two seasons, where he retired in 2011 after adding another FA Cup winners' medal to his personal honours.
