KENNETH POWELL / ATHLETICS AND TENNIS 1905-1914 / STAMFORD BRIDGE Powell was a British athlete and tennis player who competed in the 1908 and 1912 Summer Olympics as well as at the Wimbledon Championships. He competed from 1905 until 1914 and was killed in service in 1915. The following 5 lots are medals that Powell won at Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea FC:- MEDAL AT STAMFORD BRIDGE 1910 Red box with Amateur Athletic Association 1910 embossed in gold with a 120 yards Hurdles standard medal 2nd July 1910 K. 1908 OLYMPICS MARATHON Four page programme for the 1908 Olympic Games Marathon which was run between Windsor and Wembley on 24/7/1908 . Dorando Petri of Italy who initially appeared to have won the race was famously assisted over the line and subsequently disqualified with the gold medal going to Johnny Hayes of the USA. The list of runners has numbers in pencil on the reverse. Generally good
1938 F.A. CUP RUNNERS UP MEDAL A boxed runners-up 9carat gold hallmarked medal issued to a Huddersfield Town player after the 1938 Final in which Preston North End won 1-0. The top of the box is embossed in gold "The Football Association Challenge Cup 1937 - 38". The box and medal were issued by Goldsmiths Limited of Birmingham. The reverse of the medal is inscribed "Challenge Cup Runners Up". Very good

George A. Brenan (fl.1869-1883) A Sly Thief Oil on board, 23 x 30.5cm (9 x 12) Titled and signed in red 'A Sly Thief. / Geo A. Brenan', lower-left Exhibited: Dublin, Royal Hibernian Academy, 1882, no. 199, £5 5. George A. Brenan was born in Dublin, the younger brother of James Brenan, RHA (1837-1907). George was a student of the Cork School of Art and alongside his classmate, Thomas Hovenden (1840-1895) was awarded a medal in 1862. Living at 51, Camden St., Brenan won first prize, a silver medal, for a drawing from a nude living model at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1875. Brenan exhibited 'A Sly Thief' and 'Recreation' at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1882, and 'Mount St. Bernard Dog' and 'A Quiet Pipe' at the Cork Industrial Exhibition in 1883. In his 1913 Dictionary of Irish Artists, Walter Strickland notes that Brenan died soon after 1883.
