IPSWICH TOWN Very rare early Ipswich Town medal, silver hall-marked medal with inscription on reverse. The medal is engraved "Suffolk Senior Cup Winners Ipswich Town 1899-1900 D.Mills". Ipswich were formed in 1878 as Ipswich AFC and merged in 1888 with Ipswich Rugby Club to become Ipswich Town. In season 1899-1900 Ipswich joined the Norfolk and Suffolk League , finishing fourth and winning the Suffolk Senior Cup for which this medal was awarded.Town defeated Beccles 5-1 in the Final and D.Mills played at Number 6. He made occasional appearances for Town between 1895-96 and 1901-02. No case but condition is good.

Gold hall-marked medal with Manchester enamel crest on front and inscribed on the reverse "Manchester United Football Club" "Manchester Cup Winners 1920" "G.Sapfords". George Sapsford made his United debut v Notts County, 26/4/1920 in a goalless draw at Old Trafford and made 53 appearances for United scoring 17 goals. United won the competition for the eleventh time in 1920 and to date have won it 24 times. Good

* Honourable East India Company Medal for Seringapatam 1799. 48mm Soho Mint silver-gilt medal, the un-pierced disc with no signs of having been mounted, edge knock to reverse at 1.0 o’clock, few very minor marks, condition VF or better. Only 185 silver gilt medals were issued, all from the Royal Mint, to Field Officers and above as well as Members of the Council of the HEICo for the successful defeat of Tippoo Sultan. (1)

Staff Surgeon RN, HMS Modeste, (on IGS) R.R.Siccama.Fleet Surgeon.R.N. H.M.S.Northumberland. (on Egypt), condition GVF or better, together with three miniature medals, plus a large framed portrait of Siccama wearing his medals, glass slide of Siccama, a framed family tree of the Siccama family dating back to 1520, a framed tapestry of the Siccama Coat of Arms, brass bookplate of the Siccama family and other related items. Dep. Insp.Gen. Rinso Robert Siccama, R.N. Died at Westerhall, Weymouth. He received his professional education at King’s College, London, and was appointed a surgeon in the Navy in 1857, and in 1868 a staff surgeon, and as such served on the Modeste during operations in the Straits of Malacca 1875-76, for which he had the I.G.S. ‘Perak’ Medal. As Fleet Surgeon of the Northumberland during the war in Egypt in 1882 he was landed in medical charge of the Suez Canal Guard during the occupation of the canal, for which he had the Egypt Medal and the Khedive bronze star. From July, 1883, to June, 1886, he was fleet surgeon in charge of the Royal Naval Hospital at Haulbowline and being promoted to be deputy inspector-general in June , 1886, was in charge of the Royal Naval Hospital at Chatham from February, 1888, to October, 1890, when he was placed on the retired list. A Service and Victory Medal and Dead Man’s Penny for Private Frederic Aubrey Hobart, No. 5685, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, the medals loose with some tarnishing, the Dead Man’s Penny with accompanying Record Office certificate, together with two loose ribbons, belt and luggage label, Royal Artillery cap and uniform badges and buttons, an unused notebook and calendar for 1915 and souvenir kukri knife. Private ‘Fred’ Hobart, son of Nathaniel Joseph Hobart, M.D. and Alice Hobart, of Cork, aged 33, was killed on 12/12/1916, and is buried at the ADANAC Military Cemetery, Miraumont. (small quantity)

* WWI Military Cross, unresearched Military Cross (Geo V, unnamed) and Victory Medal 1914/19 (Lieut C J Sharp), the MC in original box with cutting of citation glued inside lid, together with uniform medal ribbons for these medals and the missing British War Medal, named original box for the Victory (squashed), both medals extremely fine. Citation reads: Sec. Lt. C J SHARP, R.F.A., Spec. Res., attd. A./175th Bde - This officer was in a dug-out with another officer when a gas shell wrecked the structure and buried completely his companion. He went to the rescue, and although twice overcome by the fumes, he extricated him in spite of continuous shell fire, both gas and high explosive. He has on several occasions shown great gallantry in action. (1)

London Gazette, 8th March 1918; On the night of the 7/8th November 1918 at Avelghem, he reconnoitred and constructed a footbridge across Den Rijtgracht under bombing and heavy machine gun fire. It was due to his enterprise and courage that an advance across stream was made. He has on previous occasions shown great courage under difficult circumstances. (on 14/15 star) 8028 Sgt. E.Robinson. RAF (on BWM & Victory and MSM), condition GVF. Edward Robinson was born near Skipton ,Yorkshire in 1895 and died in 1970. The medals come with a good photograph album containing original photographs of 2.A.M.E.Robinson in his RFC uniform together with many photos from No.7 Squadron RFC of aircraft, airships and aerial photographs, (29 in total). Also in the album is Mr Robinson’s gold wrist watch which is engraved on the reverse and was given to him by his mother on his 21st birthday. The album has a pair of RFC cloth pilot’s wings inset to the cover. (-)

Together with the medals is a framed photograph of Webber, plus a City of York Condolence letter from the Lord Mayor of York, Memorial scroll, Buckingham Palace memorial letter and outer card cover for death plaque. Corporal Webber was born in London and was killed in action on the 30th October 1914. His name is on the Menin Gate Memorial with details. (4)
