A Sevres turquoise ground coffee cup and saucer, 1755, the cup painted with the portrait of a lady and signed 'Binet', the saucer painted with four panels, comprising two horns, sheet music and a laurel wreath, a lyre, sheet music and a laurel wreath, an artist's palette, brushes and paper, the central panel with crown, crossed staffs a medal and a wreath, the cup and saucer with extensive gilt lattice and scrolling foliage decoration, underglaze blue mark, cup 7.5cm high, saucer 15cm diameter, (small area of restoration to rim of cup)
The Following lots are from the studio Gerald Judah Ososki, Russian/British 1903-1981 Gerald Judah Ososki was born in London of Russian parentage, studied at the St. Martins School of Art from 1917-1922, then at the Royal College of Art from 1922-1926 on the recommendation of his tutor Professor William Rothenstein 1872-1945 Gerald Ososki exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy from 1951-1973 He was a member of the Royal society of British Artists and was part of the Tate Gallery's "Seventeen Collectors Exhibition" , he was exhibited at the Leicester Gallery, The Mall Galleries, New English Art Club, Goupil Gallery and the Redfern Gallery Exhibited widely in the U.S.A, Canada and Australia. He was awarded the De Laszlo medal by the Royal Society of British Artists in 1972 Ososki's work is represented in several private collections including those of Lord Metheun RA, the late Duke Of Wellington and Sir Alexander Downer KBE During his lifetime the works ranged from watercolour studies in the grand tradition of the old masters, to bold compositions of a textural quality. George III Irish condiment fiddle pattern spoon with gilt bowl, hallmarked Dublin 1819, sponsors mark reads IS. Together with a bright cut engraved stamp holder marked sterling and a boxing medal marked Phillips Aldershot and hallmarked Birmingham 1918, sponsors mark reads F.P. Also together with a selection of items to include an Edwardian cigar mouth piece holder, length measuring 2 1/2ins (6.5cm), an early twentieth century vesta case with acanthus bright cut engraving, a bud vase height measuring 4ins (10.5cm), hallmarked Birmingham 1978, a miniature photo frame, a dressing table jar, a spoon and pusher set a condiment spoon and nail file.
Five items, to include a silver plated salt with beaded outer edging on four ball feet, a commemorative farmers club medal, a pair of glasses, a circular box with interior mirror and a George V (1914/1918) Medal with ribbon. All of the items are in generally fair condition. There are just minor scratches to the silver, again minor scratches to the silver box, the inscription to the top is quite seriously worn. The glasses are in fair condition, there is general tarnishing to the metal work, they look worn. Both commemorative medals show minor tarnishing and scratches.
Geology of Ireland--Griffith, Sir Richard John. A general map of Ireland to accompany the report of the railway commissioners shewing the principal physical features and geological structure of the country. Constructed in 1836 and engraved in 1837-8. Dublin: Hodges & Smith: London: James Gardner, [1839], first edition, hand-coloured lithographed map on 6 sheets (each sheet 65 x 79.5cm), dissected and backed on linen, edged in red silk, cloth chemise, original diced calf slipcase lettered in gilt on spine . Note: A fine copy of the Sir Richard Griffith's geological map of Ireland on the quarter inch scale. In Ireland the map possesses the same pioneer status as is held in England and Wales by William Smith's map (1815) and in Scotland by John Macculoch's map (1836). The Irish geologist Richard Griffith (1784-1878) a child prodigy, was unanimously elected to the Royal Society of Edinburgh at 23 years of age, elected a member of the newly established Geological Society of London in 1808 and in 1812 was elected professor of geology and mining engineer to the Royal Dublin Society. In 1827 he started his monumental work on the valuations of Ireland. In his work Sheets of Many Colours: the Mapping of Ireland's Rocks Davies states "In its edition of 1839 Griffith's map represents a fine acheivement; in its edition of 1855 it is on every count - cartographic, aesthetic, and geological - a truly superb map." For his geological map and other services to science Griffith was awarded the Wollaston medal by the Geological Society in 1854. Presentation copy, inscribed on cloth chemise "Sent to me from London by Mr Drummond Under Secretary, July 1840", the recipient's name erased. Thomas Drummond (1835-1840), The Under-Secretary for Ireland, the permanent head of the British administration in Ireland prior to the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922. Rare: only three copies of the 1839 edition found in the online catalogues of Copac or KVK: N.L.S. (2 sheets only, of 6), Cambridge and Trinity College, Dublin.
A brass and ebonised wood cased Bourdon pattern aneroid barometer Freres Richard, Paris, circa 1865. The 7.5 inch circular open-centred paper register calibrated in inches and inscribed E. BOURDON AND RICHARDS PATENT PARIS, METALLIC BAROMETER and with 1849 Paris Exhibition Gold Medal and London 1851 Council Exhibition Medal roundels, the centre revealing horseshoe shaped vacuum chamber and rack and pinion linkages, the convex glass with brass setting pointer within slender brass bezel and moulded ebonised surround, 33cm diameter, B.C. * Farey (Cyril Arthur, 1888-1954). Design for an office building for H. Courtney Constantine, 1926, pen, ink & watercolour view of a large office or municipal building, signed and dated, and with inscription to lower right corner, 'Constantine & Vernon F/A.R.I.B.A. Architects, 52 Mortimer Street W, large scratch mark to sky area, approx. 430 x 535 mm (17 x 21 ins), framed and glazed, with Fischer Fine Art label to verso. From the RIBA Drawings Collection catalogue: 'Probably the leading architectural draughtsman of his time, Farey was well-known for his watercolour perspectives. He was born in London, educated at Tonbridge School, and articled to Horace Field. He also studied at the Architectural Assocation and Royal Academy Schools where he was a brilliant pupil, winning the Tite Prize, 1913, Soane Medallion, 1914, RA School's Gold Medal, 1911, ...with Horace Field he won first prize for the Trevor Estate, in Knightsbridge, and with G. Dawbarn the competition for Raffles College, Singapore, 1924. He published with A. Trystan Edwards, Architectural Drawing, Perspective, and Rendering, in 1931'. (1)
