Brigadier C R Britten, OBE, MC, a Military Cross group of ten medals to Brigadier C R Britten, Grenadier Guards comprising OBE (Civil), Military Cross, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal 1914-20, Victory Medal, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45, Coronation Medal 1937, Coronation Medal 1953, Jubilee Medal 1977. Contained mounted within a glazed frame Provenance: Charles Richard Britten was the son of Rear-Adml Richard Frederick Britten (c.1843-c.1910) he saw service with the 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards (3rd Guards Brigade, Guards Division), 1914 - 1918, including involvement in the Battle of the Somme, 1916, and in fighting at Bourlon Wood, November 1917; Citation for MC London Gazette, 14 Nov 1916, Lt. (temp. Capt.) Charles Richard Britten, G. Gds. For conspicuous gallantry in action. He led his company with great courage and initiative. He personally organised bombing parties, and succeeded in obtaining complete mastery over " No Man's Land." Later he led another attack with great gallantry.
English School (19th Century) Portrait of Major-General Sir Henry Edward Colville, KCMG, CB (1852-1907), as a young officer oil on canvas 40 x 30cm (16 x 12in) Henry Colville was born at Kirkby Hall, Leicestershire, the son of Charles Robert Colville and the Hon. Katherine Sarah Georgina Russell. Henry Colville was educated at Eton, and entered the Grenadier Guards in 1870. He was appointed A.D.C. to General the Hon. Sir Leicester Smyth, commanding the forces in South Africa, in 1880. He served in the Intelligence Department of the Suakin Expedition of 1884, was present at the Battles of El Teb and the Battle of Tamai, mentioned in despatches,and received the bronze star, medal, and clasp. He was employed on special service in the Sudan prior to the Nile Expedition of 1884-85 and during that Expedition served as D.A.A.G.; was mentioned in despatches; received the clasp and was created C.B. At the close of the Expedition he was Chief of the Intelligence Department of the Frontier Force and was present at the Battle of Ginnis; was mentioned in despatches and was promoted to the rank of Colonel. He was then attached to the Intelligence Department at headquarters and wrote the official history of the Sudan Campaign. In 1893 he succeeded the late Sir Gerald Portal as Commissioner (Acting) for Uganda, commanded the Unyoro Expedition which resulted in the inclusion of that country into the Protectorate; received the Central Africa Medal, was created K.C.M.G. and received the second-class Order of the Brilliant Star of Zanzibar. He was selected for promotion to the rank of Major-General, 12 April 1898. Later, he became Commander, Infantry Brigade, Gibraltar 1899; Guards Brigade and 9 Division, South Africa 1899-1900 and retired in 1901. Relined. Quite dirty. Inventory No. 33122 to the reverse. Dirt spotting all over.

A WWII pilot log book, named for Sgt P.A Mills, and another log book for D.G Mills Royal Canadian airforce, together with various photographs of the brothers, telegrams and notifications of death, three medal groups for the Mills family: 1939-1945 stars, Air Crew Europe star and 1939-1945 medal. Also to include 1939-1945 the Defence medal, 1939-1945 Star and the Africa star, 1939-1945 medal, 1939-1945 star, the Defence medal and the France and Germany star. Two further medals: 1914-1918 medal, and 1914-1915 star, to Eng. L.T.J Spence RNR, the star stamped 'Eng J Spence RNR', and various other items relating to the family Provenance: It would appear that the Mills were brothers. David Guy Mills was killed in action on 21st July 1944. The last entry in his Log Book is dated 20 July and is marked 'Crashed, Killed'; the operation is named 'Courtrai' [Belgium] and he is named as the pilot on a Lancaster bomber. Peter Alan Mills of No.1 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit, RAF, was reported missing on 10th May 1941. The final Log Book entry is dated 9th May, with Mills as pilot of a Spitfire No. P9550. All the related correspondence is addressed to their father, Mr A.B. Mills, at 42 Haig Road, Cambridge.

A 1914-15 Star, the British War medal and the Victory medal, all inscribed to "PTE A.J.EMMS. RIF; BRIG: S-10543", together with a framed death plaque inscribed to "Alfred James Emms" and four dog tags, a 1914 Christmas tin, together with a 1914 Star, a War medal and a Victory medal, inscribed to "255 PTE E. BINNION, RIF. BRIG", dog tags relating to the same individual and a collection of postcards, letters, etc, relating to the same family, etc CONDITION REPORTS All items are worn especially dog tags, envelopes and boxes, conducive with age and use. The plaque has a small casting fault in the bottom right hand corner. See images for more details.
A military cross housed in leather case, together with a British War medal and Victory medal, inscribed to "LIEUT. H. ROBINSON", together with section of a book entitled "Military Cross" mentioning him, a hand-written diary started on November 9th 1916 finishing on 2nd January 1917, a sheet entitled "Messages and Signals", various photographs, miniature set of medals, etc CONDITION REPORTS Back of the Military cross is not engraved. All items with wear, dirt and scuffs, diary with damage and losses and loose pages, black box broken and lid separated. Please see photos for examples of condition of items. Two medals are inscribed to edges "LIEUT. H. ROBINSON", there is a clipping giving details of the Military Cross (please see photos) and which indicates that Lieut Robinson was of the Northumberland Fusiliers.

Atlantikflug 50 Jahre CH Lindbergh", together with a copy of "Andrees GroBer Handatlas Circa 1914" CONDITION REPORTS Wear, dirt, scuffs, and some items in the display case have some losses (please see photos). Atlas has wear, tears and losses. Display case has wear, chips, separating at joins, clasp missing.
