1977 Prince of Wales: a particularly interesting ink hand-signed Christmas card affixed with a colour photograph of Prince Charles wearing North American Indian traditional head dress and tunic, a silver jubilee medal and ribbon around his neck, addressed to Charles and inscribed ‘love from God Father Charles’, beneath the photograph the inscription ‘Canada 1977’, 183 x 117mm when folded. * The Prince of Wales toured Canada for the 1977 jubilee celebrations. On 1st July in Alberta, he was made Indian Chief Red Crow of the Blackfeet nation. On 11th July whilst in Calgary he was photographed with other Chiefs wearing their traditional headdress and costume. Charles Tryon (later 4th Baron Tryon) was born on 15th May 1976 and numbered amongst his God Parents the Prince of Wales, a close family friend. (commemorative, commemorating, royalty, monarch, autograph).

Henry Berkeley Portman (1860-1923), later 3rd Viscount Portman; with Emma, Viscountess Portman (1862-1929) by 1926, and by descent to her daughter Lady Moyra Dawson-Damer (1897-1962); thence by family descent. Mentioned in Lord Hawkesbury's Catalogues of Portraits at Compton Place and at Buxted Park, in Sussex, 1903, pp. 24-25, no. 35, at Buxted Park, as in the 'Gallery Round Upper Part of Hall, West Side'. The painting has been relined and restored. Picture surface stable. The picture surface appears to have been cleaned fairly recently. Craquelure throughout. Good condition overall.
The Most Honourable Order of the Bath G.C.B (Civil), Knight Grand Cross breast star to Charles Cecil Cope Jenkinson, 3rd Earl of Liverpool, awarded 1845, the badge in silver, coloured enamels and gold, makers mark only, William Neal for Garrard, the reverse finely inscribed 'R & S Garrard & Co., Goldsmiths, Jewellers & C to the Queen, His Royal Highness Prince Albert and All the Royal Family, Panton Street London', contained in its original R & S Garrard & Co fitted case of issue together with the embroidered badge for the same with paper label for D'Almaine & Co, Embroiderers to Her MajestyOverall the medal appears in good condition, the enamels are intact. There is a small scratch to the reverse. There are some small scratchmarks that appear to read ‘No 60’ and ’15,,15,,0’. The Embroidered badge has some minor fraying, the paper backing is coming loose and some of the tips of the paper are folded and chipped. Of the two concentric bands of yellow around the centre, the outer one has come loose.

A SEAGOING ENTRÉE DISH AND COVER FROM THE SERVICE OF CAPTAIN PHILIP DURHAM, PROBABLY PURCHASED WITH TRAFALGAR PRIZE MONEY, CIRCA 1807marked for Richard Crossley, London, 1807, rectangular with gadroon borders, the domed cover with incurved corners and scroll handle on a splayed leafy calyx, engraved twice with the coat of arms below a knight’s helmet for Admiral Sir Philip Durham (1763-1845), the arms augmented with his Naval Gold Medal for Trafalgar, his neck badge as Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath, and his badge for the Military Merit of France, the base further engraved twice with Durham’s crest of a dolphin, each similarly augmented with his K.C.B. badge -- 11in. (28 cm.) wide; 2419 grams, 77 oz. tr. Captain Philip Durham (1763-1845) commanded H.M.S. Defiance (74) at the Battle of Trafalgar, where he was wounded, and, as Knight of the Bath, carried a chivalric banner at Nelson’s funeral. His badge for the Military Merit of France was awarded for Durham’s role in reducing Guadeloupe for King Louis XVIII in 1815.
