A First World War ''Green Howards'' Trio, awarded to MAJOR A.(Alexander) C.(Charles)HOOTON, comprising 1914-15 Star (CAPT. YORK.R.), British War Medal and Victory Medal, together with research material including photocopies of Medal Index Card, various copies of Supplement to the London Gazette, excerpts from publications including Officers of the Green Howards, The Green Howards in the Great War and History of the East Lancashire Regiment in the Great War, etc Footnote:- He served in India during the Great War. In 1917 he was appointed 2nd in command of the 6th Bn. East Lancashire Regiment, which he commanded at the first capture of Kirkut. He later served in Ireland during the rebellion.

Footnote:- Captain Charles Hirst was killed on 3rd September 1916 at the Battle of the Somme, aged 22 years. He is remembered with Honour at the Thiepval Memorial.

A Rare Resolution and Adventure Medal, 1772, in bronze coloured 'platina', the obverse with bust r., laureate, GEORGE III KING OF GR. BRITAIN. FRANCE. IRELAND. ETC., the reverse with two ships at sea. RESOLVTION. ADVENTVRE., the exergue SAILED FROM ENGLAND MARCH MDCCLXXII, the top edge above the King's head bearing traces of original suspender ring, later drilled through the AD of ADVENTVRE to take a ribbon suspender, medal alignment Footnote:- These medals were made for distribution to indigenous people by James Cook and his men of the ships 'Resolution' and 'Adventure' during the Second Voyage of 1772-75. This medal is identical to one sold by Tennants Lot 7 25th September 2019 with the exception that that example was of coin alignment. In worn condition. The original suspender ring has been removed and the edge has been drilled. Nicks to the edge. Made using a cracked die which is evident from the flaw running through the CH of March in the exergue.
