Royal Antediluvian Order of The Buffalo Regalia named to W.E. Stewart Grand member of the first degree later Knight Commander of the Knights' Chapter of St. George (Grand Council) No. 32 and London East No. 2. Comes with his regalia including: (27) R.A.O.B. medals with many anniversary medals and Knight commander medal etc, his regalia and sashes, cuffs etc. Comes with provenance of his awards and a photograph of Mr Stewart wearing his regalia. Excellent collection
Dated 1885 AD. Obv: arms of the Cutler's Company with ribbon below. Rev: engraved in Gothic and other scripts with The / Borough Members / SILVER MEDAL / AWARDED TO / T. LEE in five lines with date below. Edge: engraved with JNO E. BINGHAM MASTER CUTLER PRESIDENT and H. HUGHES HON SEC legend; in original square purple leatherette hinged case. Allen -; apparently not listed in standard references; an example with blank (no recipient name) reverse was offered in DNW sale, 10 May 2007, lot 98. The Company of Cutlers was founded in 1624 by an Act of Incorporation. 99.86 grams total (medal 61.32 grams), 54mm. As struck; richly toned. Rare.
Dated 1884. A finely modelled bronze bust sculpture of a boy on a red marble base inscribed 'Thomas Mansfield Guthrie / 1884 / T.S. Burnett, A.R.S.A.'; engraved '231' to the underside; supplied with the gallery's data-sheets. The sculpture was shown at the 29th Exhibition of the Royal Scottish Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Edinburgh, 1855. The sculptor, Thomas Stuart Burnett, was born in Edinburgh in 1853. He was the some of a lithographic printer who won the Gold Medal of the Royal Scottish Academy in1875 and was made an Associate of the body in 1893. He exhibited many times in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen and was awarded several prizes for his work. He died in 1883. The subject of the study, Thomas Mansfield Guthrie, was the son of C.J. Guthrie, the Edinburgh Advocate. 8.4 kg, 47cm (18 1/2"). Property of a London gentleman; ex Vangelli Gallery, Westminster, London, UK. Very fine condition.
