Tunnicliffe- studies of waxwings watercolour Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe (1901-1979) Studies of waxwings monogrammed gouache 29 x 26.5cm.; 11.5 x 10.5in. * Tunnicliffe's pictures are anatomically immaculate yet often especially the early etchings have great atmosphere. He won a scholarship to Macclesfield School of Art; then Manchester School of Art 1915-21 preceding a Royal Exhibition Scholarship to the Royal College of Art 1921. His work was bought by the British Museum Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston and by overseas collections. He won the gold medal of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds 1975. Tunnicliffe was a hugely prolific illustrator of books about the country and had a long association with Henry Williamson author of Tarka the Otter 1932. Tunnicliffe's own publications included My Country Book 1942; Mereside Chronicle 1948 and A Sketchbook of Birds 1979.

Buxton 2393431, 12th Reserve Canadian Batallion, 4 Company, Wirtley Bank, Surrey: '...glad...to tell you that we go to France tonight or tomorrow perhaps...' (quantity)
A Military General Service Medal 1793-1814 with four bars for Orthes Nivelles Pyrenees and Vittoria to Private Moses Smally 6th Foot; also a George V Special Constabulary Medal to Edgar Kirkby (2) Moses Small(e)y was born in the Parish of Bolton le Moors in the County of Lancaster. He was enlisted on the 7th January 1807 aged 18. He served in the Peninsula Wars and was discharged on the 24th July 1815 having lost the sight of his left eye In service. His conduct as a soldier was said to be Very Good
