WWII medal group to Robert George Smith 398 Company RASC 6th Airborne Division comprising 1939/45 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal and War Medal, French Normandy D Day medal, medal ribbons and badges of rank, together with personal effects, souvenirs, photographs/sketches and documents. Robert Smith was commissioned at Bristol OTC into the Royal Army Service Corps and joined 398 Company RASC 6th Airborne Division. He was in France on D-Day and remained with his unit until the defeat of Germany in 1945 and beyond, as part of the Force of Occupation in Berlin. On his return to the UK and after his release by the regular army he took up a commission in the Territorial Army in August 1946 and served in Gaza in 1947.Documentation includes Airborne Forces explanatory leaflet dated June 1943 signed by General Browning, original pre D Day instructions marked BIGOT - Top Secret and detailing actions on landing and assembly areas etc., 398 Company RASC war diary covering May to July 1944 including the build up to and landing on D Day, Juno Beach and beyond, Mentioned in Despatches document dated 22/3/1945 with one leaf emblem, 21st Army Group certificate of outstanding good service and devotion to duty signed by Field Marshal B L Montgomery, commission into Territorial Army July 1949, caricature sketches dated 1944 and signed Nutty, German starting pistol, hip flask, enamel Airborne Brotherhood lapel badge etc. and photos depicting his experiences, the majority in NW Europe and mainly of Germany
Royal Air Force WWII medals awarded to 545846 to Flying Officer W.Wright, the medals comprising 1939-1945 Star, the Atlantic Star, Pacific Star with Burma clasp, Defence Medal and War Medal with miniatures and badges, together with ephemera including photos, documents and books. William Wright was stationed in South East Asia during the war and afterwards with the Air Training Corps.
Royal Navy medal group awarded to K39319 James Fitzgerald comprising WWI War Medal and Victory Medal, Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, 1939/1945 War Medal and Defence Medal, together with service records and ephemera. James Fitzgerald joined the Royal Navy in January 1917 serving on HMS Vivid II and HMS Erin. Between the wars, he served on a number of ships including HMS King George V and HMS Hood during her circumnavigation of the globe with the Special Service Squadron on the 'Empire Cruise'. During WWII he served on ships including HMS Drake and HMS Devonshire. The ephemera includes a bone handled HMS Hood pocket knife, Navy cap and band, telescope and numerous post cards etc
