Born 30th August 1871 joined The Army as 2nd Lieutenant in The Royal Welsh Fusiliers on 29th October 1890 after promotion to Lieutenant was posted to the Indian Staff Cause 12th April 1893 he served in East Africa 1895-96 during the operations against The Mazrui Rebels, served at Tirah 1897-98, promoted to Captain 10th July 1901, Brigade Major India 18th July 1907 to 18th April 1909, DAG Bazar Valley Field Force 14th February to 1st March 1908 Mohmand Field Force 19th April to 1st June 1908, served on The North West Frontier of India 1908 DAAG 1st Brigade took part in The Zakka Khel Country Dispatches London Gazette 22nd May 1908, also for operations in The Mohmand Country mentioned in Dispatches and was awarded the DSO London Gazette 14th August 1908. Promoted to Major 24th May GSO2 India from 19th April 1909 till 18th April 1911, served in The European War 1915-1916, temporary Lieutenant Colonel from 1st December 1915 until given The Brevet Rank of Lieutenant Colonel 3rd June 1916 became substantive 29th October 1916 on 3rd June 1918 he was given The Brevet of Colonel and made ADC to The King.
An Important and Historical Medal Group to Rear Admiral Robert Love Alexander CB DSO DSC to include The Companion of the Order of the Bath, Distinguished Service Order, Distinguished Service Cross, 1939-1945 Star, The Atlantic Star, The Africa Star, The Burma Star, the 1939-1945 Medal with mention in Dispatches, the Korean War Medal with mention in Dispatches, United Nations Korean War Medal and The Coronation Queen Elizabeth II Medal. His most prolific command was HMS/M Truculent with Distinguished Service Order for a successful attack on U Boat U308 off The Faroes in May 1943, mentioned in Dispatches for his involvement in Operation Source which was the X Craft attack on a German battleship Tirpitz which involved towing midget submarine X6 to the entrance of The Alten Fjord in Northern Norway, Battleship Tirpitz was heavily damaged and was not able to leave her anchorage. He was also commander of HMS Proteus with many engagements and actions. The lot includes the medal miniatures.The Korea Medal is un-named but is the original Type 1 and not a replacement. We have photographs of the Rear Admiral wearing this exact medal group. We have both citations for the mention in Despatches and copies of original log books. The Medal Group is being sold by the Rear Admiral's son who is willing to provide any information that is relevant.
