dating: first quarter of the 19th Century provenance: London Curved, single-and false-edged blade with wide fuller, finely engraved (areas of rust and scrapings) with the inscription (not completely legible) "Presented by the Officers of the 2nd Battn 66 Regt to Major Kelly 4th Ceylon Corps (their late Commanding Officer) as a Mark of their Highest Respect and Esteem" surrounded by figures and floral motifs, on the other side the inscription "PORTUGAL 16 January 1811" among figures, trophies and floral motifs; silver-plated hilt, langets with oak branches, angled pommel in the shape of a lion head, neck and cap with scales, rosette and leaves, micro-checkered, ivory grip with silver ring-nut decorated with laurel oak branches; wooden scabbard with shagreen covering, beautiful, silver mounts finely engraved with trophies and floral motifs, each hilt featuring a bas-relieved medal depicting Hercules with the Nemea lion, Victory and Justice; the back decorated en suite and featuring the manufacturer's name "OLIPHANT & SON LONDON". Snake-shaped knuckle guard. London, silver stamps and "TS" stamp probably standing for Thomas Shekleton.The Lieutenant Colonel Richard Kelly enlisted in the41st Regiment of Foot the 12th of January 1799, then in 1802 in the 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot; in 1809 he arrived in Portugal and, after the Senior Official was gravely wounded, he led the Regiment for two years. He guided the Regiment during the battle of Talavera and, after being wounded, he was honored with the Gold Medal. He left the 66th Regiment in 1811 (his officials gave him this outstanding sabre in this occasion) and he enlisted the 4th Regiment with the rank of Major and he ended his career becoming Lieutenet Colonel in the 83rd Regiment (County of Dublin) of Foot. dating: mid-19th Century provenance: Sardinian Kingdom Fine,Persian damask, single-edged blade of asymmetrical shape, with hollow tip, two cartouches with Arabic writings among floral decorations at the first part, the tip with two cartouches featuring the monogram "AR" divided by a Saboy knot and among floral motifs, on the other side an anchor under crown surrounded by the same decorations, smoth tang; steel hilt with the valve beautifully carved with two dolphins around an anchor, counter-curved quillons, decorated with leaves, the cap decorated with bands and branches; smooth, bone grip. Wooden scabbard with reptile-skin covering, steel mounts, finely engraved with floral motifs, pierced knuckle guard, two suspension rings.Augusto Riboti, 1816-1888, Admiral and Navy Minister, campaigns in the Adriatic Sea in 1848-49, Crimea in 1855/56, as the Vice Admiral on command of the ship "Re di Portogallo" awarded with the Gold Medal of Military Valour for the Battle of Lissa. dimensions: length 54.5 cm.
dating: second quarter of the 19th Century provenance: Italy Smooth, two-stage, 12 mm cal. barrel, the first part of octagonal shape, decorated with brass inlays, a big medal depicting a woman's face at the center, then round; lock converted tu percussion, signed "Possivo", decorated with frame, the hammer with floral motifs; wooden full stock with checkered butt, brass mounts, brass.tipped, iron ramrod. dimensions: length 32.5 cm.
Charles I, The Return to London 1633, cast silver medal, by Nicholas Briot, Charles I on horseback facing left within legend CAROLVS AVGVSTISS ET INVICTISS MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB MONARCHA (The most August and invincible Charles, monarch of Great Britain, France and Ireland.) the reverse showing a panoramic view of London, 42mm.
A miniature medal group of nine attributed to Lieutenant Colonel Leslie William Giles M.B.E. M.C., to include M.B.E., M.C., BWM, Victory with oak leaf, 1939-45 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence, WM and Cadet Forces, together with six matching medal ribbon bars. Leslie William Giles was awarded the M.C. for Distinguished Service Gazette 7628 26/07/17 and can be seen wearing this medal group in the previous lot.
