This coin celebrates the Coronation of William IV in 1831. The obverse shows the bust of William IV, the reverse the bust of his Consort Queen Adelaide. This medal was designed by William Wyon who was a notable medalist at this time; he was a member of the Royal Academy and was the chief engraver for the Royal Mint from 1828 until his death in 1851. Official copper medal struck in 1821 to celebrate the coronation of King George IV, following the passing of his father George III the previous year. This exceptional high relief obverse portrait of George IV is the work of the Italian engraver Benedetto Pistrucci. The reverse, also by Pistrucci, bears a classically inspired image of George's coronation where he is being crowned by the winged Roman goddess Victoria and attended by Britannia, Hibernia and Scotia.
