WW1 Death Plaque and medal trio to 13386 Pte Philip Charles Richmond 8th Norfolk Battalion Killed in Action 19th July 1916 at Delville Wood, Somme.Philip Charles Richmond a survivor of the 8th Battalions successful attack on the 1st of July 1916 was from Walpole St Andrew, Norfolk. Born 1892, son of Thomas & Charlotte Richmond. 1911 census has him as a farm labourer living with his widowed mother and elder brother. Attesting for the Norfolk Regt at Norwich 3rd September 1914. Arived in France 25th July 1915. He was originally reported wounded and missing on the 19th during the 8th's attack on Deville Wood, later confirmed as Killed in Action. After a period out of the line, the 8th Battalion took part in the attack on Deville Wood 19th July 1916. The Battalion advanced from the Southwestern end of Longueval at about 07.15 hours after hard fighting at the southern edge of the wood the Battalion captured positions and held against heavy bombardments until relieved on the 22nd of July 1916 having suffered 293 casualties.

WW1 Death Plaque and medal Trio to 21393 Pte Sidney Oliad Dent 8th Battalion Border Regiment (formerly 17310 Norfolk Regt) Reported Missing 5th July 1916 (Somme)Sidney was from King's Lynn, Norfolk. He was the husband of Mrs Rose Dent, they had 3 children and lived at 6 Frederick Place, South Lynn. He worked for Messrs, Cranfield Millers. He enlisted December 1914 in Norwich. The 8th Borders were in action on the 3rd of July and I feel Sidney went missing on this date as the battalion was in bivouacked 4th & 5th July with no reported casualties. Sidney is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, King's Lynn Memorial & South Lynn Window Memorial.Lot includes Plaque and envelope, trio of medals and decoration award letters for his medals.

Boer War and WW1 medal set with photo to Pte Ernest Albert Bailey Norfolk Regiment, wounded at Gallipoli. Set includes Queens South Africa medal with Transvaal , Orange Free State, Cape Colony, SA 1901 and SA 1902 bars, 1914/15 star, BWM, Victory Medal and Territorial Efficiency Medal. QSA impressed 683 Pte E Bailey Vol Coy Norfolk Regiment. Trio impressed to 160 Pte E A Bailey Norfolk Regt and TFEM impressed 160 Pte E A Bailey 5/Norfolk Regt.Ernest was Born 16th April 1874 at Field Dalling. His casualty form records wounded GSW left shoulder at Gallipoli 15th August 1915 and the same day he was transferred from 26 CCS to a troop ship being admitted to hospital in Malta on the 19th August arriving back in the UK being admitted to 5 Norther G.H. at Leicester on 24th Sept 1915. Ernest was obviously with the 5th Battalion on the 12th August when the battalion were decimated by the Turks. Lot comes with book of research done on Pte Bailey.

(2) *This could be William Morton Buller Feilden MC (1893-1976) of the Derbyshire Yeomanry (Territorial Force), 2nd Lieutenant from 3/4/13, Lieutenant later, 1/9/16 wounded and entitled to wound stripe, later Captain, Awarded UK Military Cross for distinguished service in the field, mentioned in dispatches twice and Italian silver medal for valour. ** Generally good, some wear in places as you would expect over time. Horn whip, missing leather strap at handle, silver collar with a couple of minor dents.

T. Gibbs. 1/S, Wales Bord.), 1914 Star, with clasp (9580 Pte. W. T. Gibbs, S. Wales Bord.), British War and Victory Medals (9580 Cpl. W. T. Gibbs. S.Wales Bord.), Army L.S. & G.C. G.V.R. 2nd issue with fixed suspension (3902236 Sjt. W. T. Gibbs. D.C.M. S.Wales Bord.), France, Third Republic, Medaille Militaire, silver, silver gilt and enamel, with trophy of arms suspension, worn. (6). Notes: Medaille Militaire: London Gazette 10 October 1918, D.C.M. London Gazette 21 October 1918. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During very severe fighting this N.C.O. who was in charge of stretcher-bearers, set a very fine example of courage and self sacrifice in the face of danger, moving about in the open during all the fighting, to ensure that the stretcher-bearers dealt with the casualties. He was working in this manner for over twelve hours, not withstanding shell fire of an intense description, and the fact that he himself had been knocked over by the explosion of a shell close to him.' William Thomas Gibbs, born 6th June at Trevethin, Monmouthshire, was a native of Caerau, Bridgend (London Gazette Records). He enlisted in the South Wales Borderers in July 1907, and served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion on the Western Front from 22 August 1914. Sgt William Gibbs transferred to the Army Reserve in February 1919, only to re-enlist in August of the same year as 3902236. He served with the Home Battalion until discharged at Portsmouth in 1931. Gibbs died 12th August 1953, having married with two sons and a daughter, in Gosport, Hampshire. EX DNW 17th Sept 2020. NB. Lot 25

A cased silver presentation set, to Captain Thomas James Victor Davis and Mrs Davis on the occasion of their Silver Wedding Anniversary, September 4th 1940. Presented by Lt. Col and Mrs John Moubray, Coldstream Guards. Sergt. Davis entered the French Theatre of War on 12th August 1914. Entitled to a 1914 Star Trio and Clasp. Awarded a Military Medal on 15th March 1919 and a Meritorious Service Medal on the 18th January 1919. Thomas was born in 1888 and attested in Swindon on 18th March 1909 aged 18 and a half, having been a Railway Porter. He married Mary Anne Miller in Caterham on 4th September 1915. Commissioned as Lt Q M on 1st October 1931. Later awarded an OBE as Captain Q M 1st April 1941. He died in Blandford 18th December 1963. NB. A Great War Western Front D.C.M. group of four medals, awarded to Private William Holliday, 6th Battalion, South Wales Borderers, who died of wounds on 13th April 1918, comprising Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (9 -16760) Pte. W. Holliday, 6/S. Wales Bord.), 1914-1915 Star (16760 Pte. W Holliday, S.Wales Bord:) (4) Notes: D.C.M. London Gazette 3 September 1918. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the morning of the 25th March, Pte. Holliday was on of a Lewis Gun Team posted in a gap in the front line about 800 yards east of Sapignies. Small parties of Highland Light Infantry were withdrawing through the Sapignies line under very heavy machine-gun fire which caused many causalities. One wounded man of the Highland Light Infantry was abandoned about 200 yards in front of Pte. Holliday's Post. He at once went out to him, dressed him and carried him safely back to Behagnies under very heavy machine-gun barrage. Pte. Holliday rejoined the team again through heavy fire. Pte. Holliday's team fought the gun, doing great execution from two positions and finally withdrew under orders from higher authority when the Germans were on three sides. Pte. Holliday showed magnificent courage and great coolness throughout 11 hours continuous action.' Pte. Holliday was a London man from Hoxton. He enlisted in Newport in Gwent. He landed in France on 24th Sept. 1915. Photo image included. Private William Holliday died of wound on 13 April 1918, and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery. Ex DNW 19th July 2017. NB. Together with three Pearsall silver plated plaques, 17.5cm high, named to W A Taylor of 6th Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment. All to 9663 WO Class 2 William Alford Taylor DCM Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Born in Stockton, Warwickshire c1889. Landed France 22nd August 1914 with 1st Bn who was engaged in the Retreat from Mons in August 1914. Entitled to 1914 Star Trio with clasp and roses. Wounded on August 6th 1916 and drafted to the 16th Bn on Recovery. Later living in Moseley, Birmingham. Note: DCM Gazetted 15th November 1918. Taylor saw service in India and was entitled to an Indian General Service Medal 1908 and a Delhi Durbar 1911 medal. NB. Notes: Private Knowles cam from Leicester and left behind a widow, Ivy Knowles, and son Brian. They lived in 1939 at 87 The Fairway, Leicester. Buried in Gauhati War Cemetery, Assam, India.
