A First War Worcestershire Regiment Vimy Ridge Distinguished Conduct Medal group of four, to 23209 PTE A.G. BOOTHMAN 3/WORC.R. On the DCM, 14-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, mounted as worn, contained in their Spink & Son Ltd case, complete with receipt and miniatures. The citation for the DCM reads: For conspicuous gallantry in holding with one other man, a detached post, his supporting party haven been driven back. Subsequently he showed conspicuous courage in an attack, and was wounded. Worcestershire Regiment in The Great War, pg 155 "Crater Fighting on The Vimy Ridge"....The following day (April 28th 1916) was broken only by sniping and bombing around the new post. Nothing much occurred until darkness fell. Then, at about 7.30pm a terrific explosion shook the ground. A huge mine had been exploded by the enemy under the parapet near the left flank of the Battalion's line. A storm of firing followed as the enemy attacked. The new post at "Broad Marsh Crater" was overwhelmed, but around the fresh crater formed by the explosion the bombers of the 3rd Worcestershire fought stubbornly. The defence was inspired 2/Lieut. J.D.W. McMichael and by Captain T.P. Muspratt who, although severely wounded, refused to leave his company and continued in command during four hours of heavy fighting until the danger had passed (a) (a) Captain Muspratt was awarded the M.C. Pte A.G. Boothman who showed great bravery in this fight, was awarded the DCM
A Victorian 9th Lancers Officer's Mameluke to Lieut-Colonel Chardin Phillip Johnson, 73cm sharply curved blade with clipped back blade and spear point, fully etched with scrolling foliage, crowned VR cypher, regimental motifs and owner's crests all on a false damascus ground, characteristic mameluke hilt with two-piece riveted wooden grips, contained in its leather scabbard with etched steel mounts. Scabbard leather replaced. As at 1860: Captain Chardin Philip Johnson had served in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny in 1857-58, and commanded a Squadron of the 9th Lancers at the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, battle of Cawnpore on the 6th Dec, and action at Seraighat, commanded the cavalry, two Squadrons of the 9th Lancers and Hodson's Horse, at the action of Shumshabad; served on Sir Hope Grant's Staff at the siege and capture of Lucknow and action at Korsee; commanded a Squadron throughout the summer campaign in Oude and Rohileund, including actions at Rhodamow and Allygunge, capture of Bareilly, action at Shahjehanpore and pursuit to Mahom(twice mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, medal and clasp.
An 1845 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword to the West Yorkshire Regiment, 83cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 22513, etched with scrolling foliage and crowned VR cyphers, further etched C.P.B from J.M.B, regulation brass Gothic hilt with folding side guard and incorporating a crowned VR cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard. As at 1885 Charles Percival Barchard, 2nd Lieutenant 11 May 1878, Lieutenant 24th Jan 1880. Lieutenant Barchard served in the Afghan War in 1879-80 as Brigade Transport Officer 2nd Brigade Reserve Division, and subsequently as Orderly Officer to Brigadier General Sale Hill, Commanding 3rd Division Kyber Line Force (Medal) Captain 1st April 1886 served with the 1st Battalion Railway Pioneer Regiment during the Boer War.
