WW2 1940 London Blitz ARP Warden Family Kings Commendation For Brave Conduct Medal Group. A rare London Blitz East Acton Kings Commendation For Brave Conduct group awarded to Miss Gwendoline Sarah Bessie Clark a Trench Marshal at The Green East Acton when it was hit by a bomb on the morning of the 1st October 1940. Comprising: Kings Commendation For Brave Conduct Pair of Bakelite badges in original box. Defence Medal, in original forwarding box addressed to Miss G.S.B. Clark 10 Long Drive East Acton London W3. Forwarding certificate for the replacement Silver Laurel Leaf (emblem not present). Accompanied by a Defence medal and box awarded to Miss F.B.L. Clark, same address. Also a photocopy of the original recommendation of the award. Miss Gwendoline Sarah Bessie Clark is confirmed as living at 10 Long Drive East Acton with her sisters Francis B.L. Clark and Marjorie Clark. It was Marjorie that she shared the duties of Trench Marshal at The Green Shelter East Acton, the two sisters are noted as never missing their duty during the air raids. On the morning of the 1st October 1940, the shelter was partly hit by a German bomb and part collapse they cooling aided the wounded and helped dig out the trapped before the rescue services arrived. These life saving tasks they undertook with total disregard to the danger and their safety. After the rescue parties took over, Gwendoline and her sister than ensured a steady flow of hot tea was supplied. The recommendation was put forward by Mr James Neal, District Warden and supported by Ben Hawes Shelter Marshal. The spelling of Clark on the recommendation is with an E, the correct spelling is without the E as per the medal box
Medal Group of Sir John Lucian Blake RNAS. Sir John Lucian Blake served during the Great War with the Royal Naval Air Service and was Knighted in 1951 for his services with the Patents Office.Comprising: Knight Bachelors Badge 2nd Type (Silver gilt London 1951) contained in original Royal Mint Case, British War Medal and Victory Medal F.13174 J.L. BLAKE A.M.1 RNAS (original ribbons and box of issue), Elizabeth II Coronation Medal (Box of Issue). Medals loose. The group is accompanied by a small selection of items including photographic portrait Circa 1951, Ephemera including 1954 menus for two dinners with the Pakistan Cricket Team, Silver presentation penknife, this engraved and signed by the Master Cutler 1950-51, etc. Sir John Lucian Blake was born in Watford 1898 and volunteered for service with the RNAS in April 1916, his medal pair entitlement is confirmed. During his service he was granted an Honorary degree as a Bachelor of Science. He appears to have remained with the RNAS / RN after the formation of the RAF. Surviving the war he entered the civil service and in 1939 is noted as Senior Examiner Patent Board of Trade, Sea Department. In 1949 he was Comptroller General Patents, Designs and Trademarks. For his services spanning 30 years he was knighted in the New Years Honours List 1952. He died suddenly two years later in May 1954 whilst visiting Paris.
WW1 Manchester Regiment / Machine Gun Corps Bayonet Charging DCM Group of Medals. Awarded to Private Ernest Aubrey who volunteered for service with the Manchester Regiment and transferred to the MGC wining the Distinguished Conduct Medal for single handedly bayonet charging an enemy Machine gun and capturing the gun and crew. Comprising: Distinguished Conduct Medal 133148 PTE E AUBREY 61/MGC, British War Medal Victory Medal 133148 PTE E AUBREY MGC. Medals loose original ribbons. The group is accompanied by a small quantity of ephemera including: Original portrait photograph, badged Manchester Regiment, November 3rd 5th Army Routine Orders announcing Aubry’s Immediate DCM. 1913 County of Middlesex Driver’s Licence etc. The announcement of the DCM appeared in the London Gazette on the 18th February 1919. For most conspicuous gallantry and determination on 2nd October, 1918, during an attack on Bartlett Farm, when the infantry were held up by a machine gun. He fixed his bayonet and dashed across the open at the gun, which he captured with its crew of four, thus enabling the Infantry to advance. Private Ernest Aubrey a native of Oldham he volunteered in December 1915 for service with the Manchester Regiment being posted to the 3rd Bn. In late January 1918 he transferred to the MGC and was posted to France in April 1918 to the 61st Bn, part of the 5th Army. His gallantry occurred on the 2nd October and one month later on the 1st November 1918 he was wounded by shrapnel and is also noted with gas poisoning. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in March 1919.

PLEASE NOTE the pair of medals are in poor condition, polished, edge knocks, naming part erased. Sergeant T.J. Greenhouse full clasp entitlement is confirmed on the medal roll.

Driver Ralph Nadin landed in France on the 12th October 1914, he was admitted to Hospital in March 1915 and is shown as serving with the 11th Railway Detachment.
Royal Engineers Officer Queens South Africa Medal Awarded to LIEUT A HARDCASTLE RE. Bearing two clasps Cape Colony, Driefontein. Retaining original ribbon and pin as worn. Correct Officer style naming. Lieutenant Alexander Hardcastle was commissioned in July 1892 and was promoted Lieutenant in 1895. After service in South Africa he resigned his commission and was recalled for WW1 service. A Lieut Alexander Hardcastle appears on the QSA medal roll serving with the Cape Government Railways as Traffic Inspector Cape Town. He is noted as working with armoured trains Troops and Stores, also blockhouse trains. He returned from South Africa in July 1900.

Blues & Royals Household Cavalry Officers Frock Coat A good scarce example of dark blue cloth. Six double rows of black worsted lace to either side of the chest, with pointed ends and sewn to allow the front to hang loose. Each of the rows are sewn with pair olivettes in the vertical position. The left breast with UN service medal ribbons. The epaulettes are edged with black lace,with Captain rank star. The stand up collar is with black lace and tracing braid. The back is again decorated with lace and tassels. Black cloth lining to interior, this with a tailors label of J Dege & Sons Ltd of London and name Captain Tomlinson B&R. Fitted with gold aiguillettes. Remains in good clean condition.
