E.R.A.4CL. H.M.S. PERSEUS), 1914-15 Star (271978 S.O.FREW, E.R.A.3, R.N.), British War Medal and Victory Medal (ENG.LT.), Defence Medal, 1939-45 War Medal, Jubilee Medal 1935 and Coronation Medal 1937, court mounted, with medal ribbon bar and miniatures including Most Honourable Order of the Bath KCB neck badge and the Order of Orange-Nassau, court mounted, together with his black silk bicorn hat, pair of bullion epaulettes, three pairs of shoulder boards, gold lace and leather waist belt with sword slings, all contained in japanned tin case, and with a portrait photograph of the above as a young man taken in 1911, a photograph of the Hulk HMS Tenedos on which he trained, and two photographs of K12 and K14 - the submarines he served in; also, a Victoria 1837-1897 bronze medal in leather case of issue.Footnote : - Sir Sydney Oswell Frew was the first officer in the navy to have risen to the rank of Engineer Rear Admiral from Engine Room Artificer. C.(Christopher) BAKER R.A.F., comprising 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, War Medal, General Service Medal 1918-62 with clasp MALAYA (CPL.), General Service Medal 1962-2007 with clasp MALAYA PENINSULA (CH.TECH.) and RAF Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, all swing mounted as worn, together with his Certificate of Service (30 Years 93 Days), a Position on Promotion Rosta letter, a National Safe Driving Competition Driver's Record Card, a Japanese Labour Camp Survivors card and related ephemera, a Malayan Driving Licence, six RAF Coastal Command shooting medallions dated 1953 and 1962, buttons, three blazer badges and a Marksman insignia, various certificates, diplomas and photographs including one of HMS Ruler which took 450 ex-Prisoners of War, including the recipient, from Tokyo Bay to Sydney in September 1945. (The recipient was taken prisoner when the British Military forces surrendered to Japan in February 1942); also, a First World War Pair, comprising British War Medal and Victory Medal, awarded to PLY.18767 PTE.W.(William) J.(James) BAKER, R.M.L.I. (father of Christopher), together with Royal Marines Certificate of Discharge dated 17th August 1920, two Royal Marines Certificates of Education, and two silver gilt and enamel RAOB jewels.

A George III silver goblet. Henry Chawner, London, 1789. The tapering bowl raised on a chased and bright-cut engraved foot with reeded border, the cup engraved with an armorial above the motto 'Pro Patria', gilded interior, 16.8cm high, approx. weight 9.7oztFootnotes: Provenance: Arms: Barry of ten Argent and Azure on a canton or a bird (within the Order of the Bath) and the same arms impaling Sable a fess dancetty Or. Between 3 crescents.Families: Hotham impaling Rous: Admiral Sir Henry Hotham KCB GCMG (1777-1833). He married Lady Frances Anne Juliana Rous in 1816. He was made a GCMG (Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George) in 1831 and this goblet carries the medal for it. The goblet was therefore engraved in 1831-1833.Condition Report: The goblet is in good condition commensurate with age. Some general surface scratching, nicking and minor pitting noted. Steady on foot. Hallmarks to underside of foot clear. Rim slightly out of round. Gilding to interior bright. Engraved coat of arms and decoration to foot is crisp. No obvious thinning detected around body of cup. No repairs or damage noted. Residue/marking from a sticky label to gilded interior. Overall a nice goblet in good condition.
