Both medals correctly named 4625 PTE J KERNS RL. DUBLIN FUS. Medals loose and have been lacquered. Ghost Dates to the reverse of QSA.. Private James Kerns enlisted in 1892. He saw service in South Africa from the 10th November 1899 until the 14th September 1902.Discharged in 1909 as no longer fit for service.

Private John Mewhorter enlisted at Amagh January 1888. He saw service in Eygpt, India and was also recalled for service in South Africa.

Accompanied by British War Medal and Victory Medal awarded to 500757 CPL E CORK C.E. Private James Cork was Killed in Action with the 7th Bn on the 30th November 1917. Corporal Edwin Cork of the Canadian Engineers is believed to be the brother of James Cork.

Suspension slightly slack edge knocks. Lance Corporal George South enlisted in October 1885. He served in India from 1895 to 1905 and was discharged from the Regiment that year.

A scarce Pathfinder Force special duty Bomb Aimers DFM medal group, logbooks and photographic archive of Warrant Officer Ronald Walter Cumbers of 76 and 35 Squadrons.Comprising:Medal Group: Distinguished Flying Medal (1385133 F/SGT R.W. CUMBERS RAF), 1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star with clasp FRANCE AND GERMANY Defence Medal, War Medal. The group has been attractively mounted along with three commemorative medals and a photograph of Ronald with his wife Violet a serving member of the ATS.Logbooks.Two examples the first being a pilots logbook covering the period 10th October 1941 to 27th July 1942 when he re-mustered as a Bomb Aimer. The second aircrew log book records flights from the 13th September 1942 to his last flight with 14 OTU on the 17th May 1945. The log records his first trip to Kassel on the 3rd October 1943 with 76 Squadron and his first operation with 35 Pathfinder Squadron on the marshalling yards at Lille on the 9th April 1944. Details of 62 trips are recorded. Photograph archive.These include photographs of training in Canada, plus two photographs taken whilst with 35 Squadron showing a Halifax and crew prior to ops on Kassel.Selection of Ephemera. Including original Buckingham Palace invitation to receive the DFM from the hand of King George VI. The recommendation for the DFM raised on the 19th August 1944 London Gazette 14th November 1944.This NCO is an operator of special equipment who has been engaged on operational flying for a long period and has 45 sorties to his credit. At all times, he demonstrates most praiseworthy keenest to operate and the results he has achieved with his crew are of the highest standard. In view of this NCO’s record of accuracy and reliability, he is recommended for the non-immediate award of the Distinguished Flying Medal.Warrant Officer Ronald Walter Cumbers DFM was born in 1921 at the outbreak of WW2 he was working at the London Stock Exchange and in 1940 he joined the RAF at Euston and volunteered for Pilot training. Accepted he attended the Elementary Flying Training School at Swindon before being posted to Florida. In 1942 he re-mustered as a Bomb Aimer completing training in Canada before returning to the UK and following posting to various training units he undertook his first operational sortie on the 3rd October 1943 with 76 Squadron flying the Halifax heavy bomber. A steady flow of ops saw 9 under his belt by March 1944, when the crew answered the call for volunteers for the PFF Pathfinder Force. After a month of training he was posted to 35 Squadron and flew his 10 operation on the night of the 9th April 1944. Bomber Command was now preparing for D-Day and 35 carried out a constant flow of specialised operations by the 5th June he had completed 18 trips. The missions continued with the Squadron switching to Daylight Pathfinder ops on the 6th July 1944, most of these in Northern France in support of the allied spearhead. Trips to the big cities of the Rhur resumed on the 25th July with his 36th op to Stuttgart and endurance of over 7 hours. On the 28th October 1944 along with his crew he wrote up his last operation to Walcheren Gun positions this being his 62nd trip. Screened from ops he was posted to 14 OTU as an instructor in December 1944 and remained with the unit until May 1945. Surviving the war his marriage to Violet would last over 68 years and he died shortly after his 100th Birthday. Warrant Officer Cumbers is mentioned in the book The Arnold Scheme British Pilots, The American South and the Allies Daring Plan by Gilbert S Gunn. He was one of 122 intake in May 1942 to undertake Pilot training, before he re-mustered as a Bomb Aimer.

London Yeomanry Machine Gun Corps WW1 / WW2 Officer Medal Group of Seven This group is attributed to Major Harry Poulter who served with the Sharpshooters 3rd County of London Yeomanry and Machine Gun Corps during the Great War and served with the Royal Engineers during WW2. Comprising: British War Medal, Victory Medal, 2 LIEUT H. POULTER, 1939/45 Star, Africa Star, clasp “1st ARMY”, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal. Mounted as originally worn. The then Second Lieutenant Harry Poulter was commissioned into the 3rd City of London Yeomanry and was then attached to the Machine Gun Corps. He landed in Egypt on the 16th January 1918. In June 1940 he was granted a Regular Army Emergency Commission in the Royal Engineers. He remained in the Army after the war and in 1949 held the rank of Acting Major.

BDE, Queens South Africa Medal, three clasps Defence of Ladysmith, Laings Nek, Belfast, 4121 PTE RIFLE BRIGADE, Khedive Medal, clasp Khartoum (unnamed as issued). Medals loose. Private Richard Baily from Yarmouth enlist on the 4th November 1895, he was posted to the Sudan in July 1898 and his records show he was present at the occupation of Crete. He arrived in South Africa on the 2nd October 1899, he returned to the UK in October 1901 and was discharged as unfit on the 20th April 1902
City of London Police Inspectors Coronation group of three medals. Awarded to Police Inspector W G Reeves. Comprising: Queen Victoria 1897 Jubilee Medal (PC 921 W.G.Reeves), Edward VII Coronation Medal (PS), George V Coronation Medal (INSP). Mounted loose as worn. All three medals are City of London Police issue Accompanied by a 1911 Silver and enamel City of London Medal. This with silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1911. (4 medals)
Boer War 1st Kings Dragoon Guards, Saddle Tree Maker Meritorious Service, Medal Group of Three. An unusual ranked group awarded to 3218 Saddle Tree Maker Sergeant James Harris 1st Dragoon Guards who was severely wounded at Roodebergen during the Boer War. Comprising: Queens South Africa Medal, 3218 Sgt J. Harris 1st Dgn Gds (Unofficial correction to rank), bearing four clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, (EVIIR), 3218 S.T.M. Sjt 1/Dgn GDS, Meritorious Service Medal (GVIR), Sjt 1-K.D. Gds. GC mounted court style for display. James Harris was born in 1865 and enlisted into the Regiment at the age of 19 in October 1887. His civilian rank is given as French Polisher and this may have resulted him in attaining the unusual rank of Saddle Tree Maker Sergeant, the rank seen on his Long Service Medal. He saw service in India, Dublin and in January 1901 he embarked to South Africa. On the 22nd November 1901 he was severely wounded at Roodebergen and was sent home in January 1902. Whilst convalescing he married and by March 1903 he was fit enough to rejoin his Regiment in South Africa, now part of the occupation army. Returning to the UK and garrison duty at Dublin he received his final discharge on the 25th October 1908. In 1952 he wrote to the Regiment, his letter being published in the Regimental journal, this gave brief details of his service confirming the award of the three medals. He passed away the following year at the age of 86.

He served with R ((Greenwich) and X (Kilburn)Divisions.

7th Bn Hampshire Regiment 1944 Casulty General Service Medal, clasp Palestine. Awarded to 5495009 PTE F.C. WAKEHAM HAMPS R. Medal with edge knocks. Private Frederick Charles William Wakeham was born in Guernsey and enlisted into the Hampshire Regiment serving with the 1st Bn in Palestine. He was Killed in Action on the 30th July 1944 in North West Europe whilst serving with the 7th Bn Hampshire Regiment.
WW1 1st Bn Grenadier Guards Mons Star Casualty Group of Three Medals. Awarded to 8803 PTE W ROBBINS G. GDS. Comprising: 1914 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal. Medals loose. Private William Robbins enlisted into the Grenadier Guards in March 1900 and landed in France with the Regiment on the 12th November 1914. He was discharged in August 1916 with the award of the silver war badge and died as a result of service on the 16th January 1919. He is listed as serving with the 1st Bn.
Canadian Chaplain WW1 Pair of Medals. British War Medal and Victory Medal awarded to HON CAPT I. J. E. DANIEL. Mounted as originally worn. Attributed to Hon. Captain I J E Daniel a Canadian Roman Catholic priest who volunteered for service during the Great War and originally served with the 102nd Bn CEF. He is noted as writing a number of books. He once again volunteered for service during WW2 and achieved the rank of Squadron Leader with the RAF in 1945.
