* JOHN YOUNG HUNTER RSA (SCOTTISH 1874 - 1955), MICKEY oil on canvas, signed, titled and dated 1920 image size 130cm x 78cm, overall size 147cm x 99cm Framed. Note: Born 29 October 1874 in Glasgow, son of Colin Hunter R.A. Studied at the Royal Academy Schools and under Sargent, Alma-Tadema and Orchardson. Married Mary Towgood, painter and fellow-student, in 1899 and spent eight months with her in Italy, returning through Germany and Belgium. Exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1895; with his wife at the Fine Art Society in 1903 and at the Paris Salon (Medal 1914). Lived at Gifford's Hall, Suffolk. Settled in the USA in 1913 and painted scenes of Indian life as well as portraits. Died at Taos, New Mexico, 9th August 1955.

'The Duke of Wellington Picture Medal' a re-creation of the original Wellington picture medal struck in 1815 which consists of a large box-medal (diameter 77mm (3'')) struck in bronze gilding metal & containing the complete set of 13 full-colour aquatint copies on circular cards (each 70mm) of the 13 watercolour originals, each depicting a scene from one of Wellington's campaigns with the name of the battle below; 12 depict Peninsular battles, Cuidad Rodrigo, Salamanca, Talavera etc & one a scene from the Battle of Waterloo. The reverses of each roundel, copied from the originals, describe in detail the course of each battle. The obverse of the box-medal has the legend 'ENGLANDS GREAT CAPTAIN ARTHUR DUKE OF WELLINGTON' around a left-facing profile portrait of Wellington in Field Marshal's uniform & the reverse depicts the winged figure of Victory seated left beneath a tree inscribing 'RECORD OF BRITISH VALOUR' on a tablet. Issued in 1975 by Toye, Kenning & Spencer Ltd in a limited edition of 2,000, in fitted case of issue & complete with a small pair of tweezers for handling the card roundels. A London stoneware inscribed and dated Royal commemorative tankard, 1723, probably Vauxhall, of cylindrical form and with grooved strap handle, applied with a portrait of Queen Anne within an oval cartouche flanked by four roses and two topiarized trees and two oak trees, above a hunter with his hounds, the top rim inscribed This is to y Pious Memory of Queen Ann Drink all out & fill it a again, incised date 1723, with late 18th century silver rim and a cover inset with coins, the centre with a Duke of Marlborough silver medal dated 1703 and the thumbpiece copper coin dated 1714, overall height to top of thumbpiece 23cm Condition Report: small chip at edge of silver mount approximately 8mm x 4mm8cm fine hair crack running vertically from rim into body scale chip to underside of foot rim approximately 2.3cm x 7mm possibly an extension of a firing fault unexamined under the later silver mount which might be covering damage to rim pin that holds lid to rim lacking and some wear to coins and knocks and wear to cover Condition Report Disclaimer
