Indian Mutiny Medal with Delhi clasp to J Tatton 61st Reg. Lot includes copy of discharge papers 13/10/1862. They list his service at the battle of Sandoolapore, with Cuthberts field Force in pursuit of the enemy to the Kyber Pass and at the siege of Delhi for which the clasp was awarded. During his career he was twice tried by regimental court martial. in 1843 he was imprisoned for 40 days with hard labour and again for 40 days in 1844 for attempting to deceive his Captain.Provenance; Part of a single owner private collection of medals

Silver medal of the Shipwrecked Fishermen and Mariners Royal Benevolent Society suspended from two dolphins engraved Henry Dinnick 1857. Awarded following the rescue of the emigrant ship Martin Luther. Henry Dinnick and others manned the lifeboat of the Peninsular and Orient Steam Company's ship Tagus and at the risk of their lives proceeded to the rescue of the Emigrant ship Martin Luther, lying disabled in a gale of wind, with a very high sea, with only the foremast standing, rolling fearfully, after two and a half hours exposure, in which nearly all hands were drowned by the staving of the boat, warps were got to her, and the vessel was preserved , and towed into Plymouth, having on board 498 passengers. all of the crew were awarded the Society's silver medal. Victorian India General Service medal 1895-92 with clasp Punjab Frontier 1897-8, R Lewis 3rd Bn Rif Bde. The Brigade formed part of the Tochi Valley Expedition. The Tochi Expedition was a punitive visit by Anglo-Indian troops to the Tochi Valley in 1897 to put down a rebellion there. The Punjab Frontier Force believed that no British Troops could endure the march through this hotest district of the country in midsummer. no movement by day was possible, but in night marches the Battalion covered 110 miles in eight days to Bannu. temperatures in tents were up to 105 degrees and as often as not a dry dust storm in the afternoon prohibited rest or sleep. Queen Victoria South Africa medal with five clasps, South Africa 1901, Laing's Nek, Transvaal, Relief of Ladysmith, Tugela Heights, to Lieut E E Shearburn, Bethune's MI. Note; Bethune's mounted Infantry corps was raised at Durban in October 1899 by Major E C Bethune, 16th Lancers, an officer who like several others undertook the raising and command of irregular corps before the value of these was fully appreciated at home.Provenance; Part of a single owner private collection of medals.
Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society`s Marine Medal (silver), to Captain William T Aspinall SS Gregory for praiseworthy and humane service and George V medal for war service mercantile marine 1914-8, and a 1914 - 1918 war medal Captain Aspinall received his Master's certificate in 1895. On 4th January 1914 the tanker Oklahoma ran into heavy weather and broke in two. The steamship Gregory under Capt Aspinall rescued five exhausted men from the sea. 25 of the 38 man crew of the Oklahoma lost their lives. For his part in the rescue the Liverpool medal included in the lot was awarded to Captain Aspinall. The Captain subsequently received a gold watch and chain presented to him by the President of the United States which was inscribed as follows; From the President of the United States to William Trow Aspinall master of the British Steamship Gregory in recognition of his humane services in effecting the rescue at sea of the members of the American steamship Oklahoma. Medal group including Military Cross two 1914 -1918 war medals and Defence medal, 2nd Lt John Pannett Sept 18th 1918 , and a small quantity of photographs, presentation case for the Military Cross and further paperwork Gazette issue 31480 re John Pannett MC. Military Cross; During an attack on the enemy positions near Pontru on September 18th, 1918, he led his platoon with great gallantry. When the second objective was reached he advanced to exploit a third objective, and he advanced to within 100 yards of the enemy position under heavy machine-gun fire. Later, he successfully dealt with an enemy counter-attack against his right flank. Again, during a night attack he led his platoon to their furthest objective and organised the position skilfully according to the situation. His coolness and disregard of danger throughout were a fine example to all.
