A medal group of five, from two World Wars, to William Ashton,comprising: a WWl trio to Capt. W. Ashton: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & Victory Medal,a WWll pair to Flight Lieut. William Ashton RAF, mounted and framed, together with three cloth 'wings' badges for RFC and RAF and an RFC brass badgeIn WWl Ashton served in the Worcester Regiment, before transferring to the RFC. He was with the 4th battalion in Gallipoli.During the First World War a number of Officers from the Worcestershire Regiment were attached to the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) which later became the Royal Air Force (RAF). Some of the officers obtained flying licences and became pilots, others were navigators or posted to staff duties.A fellow officer who was also seconded to the RFC was Capt. William Leefe Robinson, who won the VC for shooting down the first Zeppelin over Cuffley in 1916.In WWll Ashton served in the RAF. His son, also William Ashton, served too, and his medals are in Lot 184.

Ashton, M.B. 53rd Regt.',together with its dress miniatureWilliam Ashton, Assistant Surgeon 15th September 1857, Surgeon 27th March 1872, Surgeon Major 1st March 1873, Brigade Surgeon (Lieutenant Colonel equivalent) 5th October 1882 (Bengal). Property of an Essex, UK collector; acquired on the UK art market, 1980-1990. Long sleeved shirt size M, approx., (there's no label). Flocked number, advertising, club and shirt emblem. Shirt bears two stains. Henryck Kasperczak (born in 1946, 73 caps for Poland, 3rd place at the 1974 World Cup, silver medal at the Olympic Games 1976) was appointed coach-player in his first season for Metz when the former coach was diagnosed with cancer. Kasperczak stopped playing for Metz after season 1978/79 and was coach for the team until 1984. During his time a coach, Metz reach the cup final three times. Kasperczak won the cup with other French teams twice.
