He was posted to Egypt, but was invalided home the following year due to an attack of dysentery and septic poisoning, on his recovery he was posted to France.

OSCAR FLORIANUS BLUENNER (American 1867-1938), Modernist townscape, signed lower right, crayon, watercolour and wash, 7" x 9" (see illustration). Note: Born in Prussia, Bluenner won the Royal Medal of Architecture at the Berlin Royal Technical Academy in 1891 before fleeing to the U.S. the following year. He notably designed the Bronx County Court House and became an active member of the modern art movement forming around Alfred Steiglitz's '291' Gallery.
