FINE SHEFFIELD GOLDSMITHS COMPANY VICTORIAN 18CT GOLD FULL HUNTER POCKET WATCH WITH POWER RESERVE, by VICTOR KULLBERG, numbered 4746, London hallmark for 1885, frosted gilt 3/4 plate movement with helical steel balance spring, cut and compensated balance, white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and outer five minute divisions, subsidiary seconds and up-down dials, blued steel spade hands, polished round hinged case with monogrammed front and back, EW case maker's mark possibly for Ebenezer White, dial and movement signed, 50mm Provenance: private collection south Wales, consigned via our Cardiff officeAuctioneers Note: No. 4746 is specifically reffered to in the hand-written entry in the Day Book of Victor Kullberg, where the Sheffield Goldsmiths Company returned the watch insisting the name of the firm be printed on the dail and engraved on the plate, presumeably instead of Victor Kullberg. Victor Kullberg is recorded as making some of the finest chronometers and he was one of the most successful horologists of the 19th century. He was born in Visby, Sweden in 1824 and worked for LU Jurgensen in Copenhagen, moving to London in 1851. He gained many top medal awards around the world, including nine gold medals with diplomas of honour. Kullberg came top of the Greenwich trials twelve times and was granted the Cross of the Legion of Honour in 1889. He died in 1890. With thanks to Mr Jon Campbell for help in attributing this fine watch.Condition: very minor wear to case, dial with small hairline at 7, minute hand slightly corroded, otherwise super, winds & runs, gross wt. 139.6g

Theobald died on 2nd November 1917 and is commemorated at Gaza War Cemetery, together with four other medals to 1462484 Ormond Edric Cecil Theobald, L.A.C. RAF to include 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence medal, War medal and box of issue plus his two dog-tags and assorted relevant ephemera including his RAF Service and Release book
First and Second World War Gallantry Military Cross medal group of five awarded to Capt Alan Reginald Mawnall Derby of the 3rd Battalion London Regt, Machine Gun Corps, to include George V Military Cross, 1914-1918 British War medal, 1914-1919 Victory medal and WWII Defence medal. Military Cross awarded to Alan Reginald Mawnall Derby during April 1917 and was gazetted in the London Gazette on 18th July 1917 stating "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, he commanded his machine gun company with the greatest skill and energy throughout. He displayed the utmost coolness and determination under heavy fire and rendered the greatest assistance to the infantry". Medals displayed in top quality display case by Spink & Sons of London
WWI casualty trio impressed to Rifleman A/394 Pte Michael Henry Ride of 7th Battalion Kings Royal Rifle Corps consisting of 1914-1915 Star, British 1914-1918 War medal, 1914-1919 Victory medal. Michael Ride died on 30th September 1915 aged 19, of his wounds sustained in the Battle of Loos and is remembered with honour at Bedford House Cemetery, Belgium. WWI medal pair impressed to 2nd Lieut Frank Harbron of 2nd Battalion 6th Company Manchester Regt comprising British 1914-1918 War medal, 1914-1919 Victory medal. Harbron had received facial wounds shot in the right cheek and shrapnel in the left eye and was captured by Germans on 18th November 1916 at the Somme and sent to German POW camp Sennelager Block 2 on 27th November 1916, and was released from German captivity and returned back to England via Rotterdam on 29th November 1918. Pair of Victorian medals to casualty of the Indian Mutiny war to include Queen Victoria Crimea medal with Sevastopol clasp, together with Indian Mutiny medal of the Sepoy Mutiny India 1857-1858 with the Defence of Lucknow clasp, impressed Crimea medal to Henry Jefford, 90th Regt and Mutiny medal impressed to H Jeffard, 90th Lt Infantry. He took part in the first relief of Lucknow. Pte H Jefford was killed on 11th October 1857 at Alum Bagh. Recruit 2853 Pte H Jefford enlisted at Cork on 14th October 1851. July-December 1852 Dublin and Cork was imprisoned on 26th and 27th August, promoted from Cpl to Cpl between April and May, then to Sgt between April and June 1854 and reduced to Pte on 13th September 1854. Promoted back to Cpl on 30th April and then to Sgt between April and June 1855. Committed 20th December 1855 - tried and convicted, released and reduced to Private. Committed 7th May 1856 - tried and sentenced 12th May. 84 days in prison in the Crimea. Aldershot - July in prison, released from prison 4th August. Furlough 1st - 30th January. Committed 10th March - tried and sentenced 12th March. 42 days in prison. April 1857 - Anglesey plus Portsea from imprisonment 23rd April. 15th April - July 1857 on passage to India. October to December 1857 - Alum Bagh - killed 11th October 1857. Medals are presented and displayed in case from Spink & Sons London
