A silver “Ordre du Rémplacement” decoration as a substitution of a formerly awarded Knight’s Badge of the Napoleonic, Italian Order of the Iron Crown: 45,5x25,5 mm, chiselled silver; Austria’s double-headed eagle holding the sceptre and the sword at left and the orb at right, resting on a polychrome enameled Lombardy’s Crown (minor chips to the enamels) with inner, blued iron insert; the breast and the back charged to the obverse and reverse, with blue enameled shields with resp. “F” and “1815”; small, thick suspension ring and oval, grooved ribbon ring; with long, original ribbon.Very fine condition, rarely seen with its mostly intact enamel.An interesting decoration, first testimony of the renewal of the only Napoleonic order survived outside France. The Austrian Emperor, when decided to create the Imperial Austrian Order of the Iron Crown, also wanted not to forget the former French knights, that became Austrian subjects, so, a special decoration in three classes and a medal (the latter to soldiers and military of a rank lower than officer) was created: the decoration could have been given only in exchange of the insignias of the ceased French order. Round medallion surrounded by a laurel wreath 57x31 mm,the double headed royal eagle with half-out stretched wings is attachedto the top of the medallion with the royal crown above. The obverse ofthe medal bears the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Serbia and the reversehas a four line inscription: “TO THE RESTORERS/OF THE KINGDOM OF SERBIA/GRATEFUL/FATHERLAND”, with its original ribbon. A 1st Class, instituted in 1849. Breast Badge, 32 mm, in GOLD, original suspensionring and triangular ribbon.The medal was created by Pope Pius IX to reward the 9,000 Frenchtroops under General Oudinot who restored Rome to him. In February 1849, a revolutionary mob led by Garibaldi and Mazzini seized power in Rome and proclaimed a Roman Republic. The Pope slipped out of Rome and called upon Catholic states to intervene. First was France whose ExpeditionaryForce arrived on 20 April 1849 and was promptly hurled back into the sea.The French were surprised by the strength of resistance and besiegedRome throughout June and restored Rome to the Papacy in July. It was not until 1870 that Rome, with the exception of the Vatican City, was incorporated into a newly-united Italy. Extremely rare in gold! I RR!

Rare WW1 Royal Navy Air Service medal in Original Case for Petty Officer Mechanic F.20717 A. H. Usher with a 1919 Peace booklet from the city of Newcastle to Gordon Usher the sun of A. Usher indicating that his father was killed in action in France.A. Usher flew with 8 Squadron (Created in 1916 and amalgamated in 1918 to the RAF) known as ‘Naval Eight’ all volunteers who went from Dover Patrol to temporary duty with the BEF at the hight of the Somme offensive in October 1916. Equipped with Sopwith variants they frequently clashed with Baron Von Richthofen’s ‘Flying Circus’ , ‘Naval Eight’ soon became one of the elite flying units of the war.

WW1 medal group to 243 Pte J.L Jones ASC. It comes with a very sad note stating dates andevents that happened to the family that lived at the same address as the medals are addressed to.The officers and men of the ASC (Army Service Corps) were the unsung heroes of the British Army in the Great War. Soldiers can’t fight without food, equipment and ammunition and can’t move without transport. It was the ASC’s job to provide them.

Stan Shaw (Sheffield) Bowie Knife, a fine example of this 'Little Mester's' workmanship, overall length 36cm, the blade 23cm long with workback along the length of the blade and wooden handle, housed in a leather sheath with safety strap. *Stan Shaw was a world renowned knife maker whose clients included The Queen, Elvis Presley and US Presidents, he was made an Honorary Freeman of The Company of Cutlers in 2003 and received The British Empire medal in recognition of his work in 2017. He died on the 28th February 2021, aged 93.
