William Rowland Wright 4th King's Royal Rifle Corps, 1911-1945: 1911 Delhi Durbar medal (re-named to Bugler W R Wright 4th KRRC); Russia St. George Medal (re-named) no number, 1913-1917 version); France, Croix de Guerre; 1914-15 star , British War Medal, Victory medal, Long Service Good conduct 1911-1920 issue (all to Pte. W R Wright KRRC), WW2 Defence medal, mounted on bar, along with miniature group of same, but only including the Delhi Durbar, 19140-15 stare, BWM, Victory medal and LSGC medals, also mounted on bar and black KRRC cap badge 7787 William Rowland Wright transferred to the Labour Corps as a sergeant in 1918 (53351) and served until 1920.
British India and the Raj - a Victorian army officer's ink manuscript diary, of Major Henry Lonsdale Hallewell (1852-1908) while aged 20 and on active service with the 2nd Battalion Royals, intermittently kept from 1st January - 8th June, 1872, only, his narrative commences in a chilly railway carriage from Bombay station - and he was glad of his great coat - eventually arriving at Fatehpur?, further accounts of men's sport racing, horse-buying, dinners (getting very tight on whisky), mess life with his brother officers, dances, official's financial irregularities, rumours, Russian and American news (the veiled possibility of war), cholera outbreaks, marching, boat races, comments on irregular language and snippets of domestic native and colonial life, further notes in places, some loosely-inserted, Lett's Diary for 1872, grey cloth gilt and blind, marbled endpapers, 8vo, [1] Henry Lonsdale Hallewell was born on 3 October 1852, the son of Colonel Edmund Gilling Hallewell, 28th Regiment. As a Sandhurst Cadet he was the recipient of a Royal Humane Society Medal in bronze, awarded for a rescue made on 28 May 1871 at Knaresborough, Yorkshire (R.H.S. Case No. 18724). He served in the Bengal Famine Relief of 1874 and was mentioned in the Order of the Army of India. As a Deputy Assistant Commissary General in the Commissariat and Transport Corps, he served in the Egypt and Sudan Campaign of 1884-85, being present at the battle of El-Teb. He later served in the operations in Zululand 1888. During the Second Boer War he served as a Major in the Queenstown Rifle Volunteers and was awarded the C.M.G. in 1900 and mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 16 April 1901). Latterly living at The Holt, Alverstoke, Hampshire, he died on 23 June 1908. Major Hallewell's medals were sold by Dix Noonan Webb, Orders, Decorations, Medals and Militaria, 25th-26th June 2014, Lot 1118.

A group of Second War medals awarded to Captain (later Colonel) John Barron Irvine, Royal Artillery:- Military Cross dated 1942, 1939/45 star, Africa star with Eigth Army bar, France & Germany star, Defence medal, War medal, 1953 Coronation medal and Territorial Decoration dated 1950 with two bars, mounted as worn together with a selection of original photographs, 1953 Certificate and envelope for the Coronation medal, set of dress miniatures and 9ct gold Royal Artillery sweethearts brooch - extract from the story of 50 Div "On June 15 1942 Captain John Irvine's armoured observation post was blown up by a mine and he became separated from his troops. He obtained another truck and on his way to re-join his guns found a second troop engaging some tanks. Together with the Troop Commander and a Warrant Officer he manned one gun until it was knocked out. After seeing to the evacuation of the Commander who was wounded, Captain Irvine took charge and for five hours and under continual shell fire re-organised the depleted detachments, saw that enough vehicles were made serviceable to withdraw the guns, and supervise the evacuation of the wounded. After withdrawing some guns to safety across a wadi under very heavy shell fire, he re-crossed the wadi twice to arrange the removal of other vehicles. He took away the sights from one gun as the tractor containing ammunition was burning a few yards away - Captain Irvine received the M.C."
Costume of the Various Orders in the University of Cambridge, no date, 8vo, (early 19th century), engraved title, letter press title, 14 coloured costume plates only, 2 medal plates; bound with University of Cambridge Guide, 24 small aquatint plates (as called for in this copy), probably trimmed, all in contemporary diced calf gilt with cracked jointsFootnote: Other copies of the Costumes section list 17 coloured plates and are described as quarto. The text section signatures in this copy show the gatherings in fours, so this copy is probably derived from a cut down quarto edition. Sold as a collection of plates and not subject to return.

A large collection of military clothing, equipment and related items, all the property of Major Eustace Archibald Remant R.E. (born 1894), contained in his original (named) Alkit Ltd trunk. Major Remnant fought in WWI in the Dardanelles, France and Flanders, and then again during WWII in France, with his medal record being: 1914-15 Star, General Service Medal 1914-18, Victory Medal, Territorial Efficiency Medal, Coronation Medal 1937, French Dardanelles Medal 1915, Special Constabulary Reserve Long Service Medal and 1939-43 Star. The collection here includes uniform and accessories from both wars (to include a dress uniform), together with two Belgian flags, medal ribbons (no medals present), his coin purse, a bayonet and scabbard, photographs of Major Remnant and a photocopy of his B199A Army Form, detailing his career in detail. Worthy of further inspection.Footnote: Although retained by the family, please see the attached document illustrating Major Remnant's medals and honours including the British War Medal, Efficiency Medal, Defence Medal, Special Constabulary Long Service Medal, France & Germany Star and various others.
A WW1 DSO four-medal group, comprising Distinguished Service Order, 1914 Star (with 5th August - 22nd November 1914 bar), British War Medal and Victory Medal, with oak leaf for being 'Mentioned in Dispatches', to Colonel Thomas Wykeham Pragnell, 4th Queens Own Hussars, the War Medal and Victory Medal later re-impressed with 'Lt. Col. T.W. Pragnell', mounted together with a WWII Defence Medal and War Medal, contained in a Spink & Son Ltd box, a George V Garrard & Co cased C.B.E. enamel medal, two George V Officer's Cavalry dress swords, each with wire-bound fish skin grip and curved metal guard, by Rogers & Co, one blade numbered 16331, both in leather scabbards. Together with and items of Colonel Pragnell's full dress uniform including a tunic with gold braid, trousers, a hat in metal hot box, two pairs of boots, one with shoe trees, an Edward VII silver-mounted officer's cross belt pouch, Birmingham 901 by J & Co, on a silver mounted gilt belt, another similar silver-mounted belt, ivory mounted boot pullers, swagger sticks, leather belts and pouches, spurs, and gold braid, and a set of 7 miniature dress medals. All contained in a tin trunk with an engraved brass plate 'T W Pragnell 4th Hussars', and a copy of a photo of Colonel Pragnell.
