A group of Second War medals awarded to Captain (later Colonel) John Barron Irvine, Royal Artillery:- Military Cross dated 1942, 1939/45 star, Africa star with Eigth Army bar, France & Germany star, Defence medal, War medal, 1953 Coronation medal and Territorial Decoration dated 1950 with two bars, mounted as worn together with a selection of original photographs, 1953 Certificate and envelope for the Coronation medal, set of dress miniatures and 9ct gold Royal Artillery sweethearts brooch - extract from the story of 50 Div "On June 15 1942 Captain John Irvine's armoured observation post was blown up by a mine and he became separated from his troops. He obtained another truck and on his way to re-join his guns found a second troop engaging some tanks. Together with the Troop Commander and a Warrant Officer he manned one gun until it was knocked out. After seeing to the evacuation of the Commander who was wounded, Captain Irvine took charge and for five hours and under continual shell fire re-organised the depleted detachments, saw that enough vehicles were made serviceable to withdraw the guns, and supervise the evacuation of the wounded. After withdrawing some guns to safety across a wadi under very heavy shell fire, he re-crossed the wadi twice to arrange the removal of other vehicles. He took away the sights from one gun as the tractor containing ammunition was burning a few yards away - Captain Irvine received the M.C."
