A QUEEN ANNE TORTOISESHELL AND SILVER SNUFF BOX, of oval outline, the tortoiseshell lid pressed with a coronation bust of the Queen in full Garter Robes from a medal by John Obrisset, taken from the portrait by Sir Godfrey Kneller, with a two-lugged stand away hinge, c. 1710, 8cms x 6.5cms. See illustration N.B. John Obrisset was a Huguenot medalist, snuff box maker and worker in horn and tortoiseshell. See Eric Delieb `Silver Boxes`, pg 43 pl.91
GIUSEPPE RENDA (Italian 1859-1939), "Il Generale", a bronze figure of a boy dressed as a General wearing a greatcoat with a medal and holding a stick, c.1910, signed in the bronze G. Renda, with the Art Laguna-Napoli Foundry mark, rich brown patination, raised on later white marble oblong base, 18 1/2" high (Illustrated) Renda was born in Polistena, Italy. The majority of his long and prolific career was spent in Naples where his style developed with that of the Italian Art Nouveau known as Liberty. This figure is a fine example of Renda`s interpretations of expressive Neopolitan street urchins, nicknamed "Scugnizzo"
