Early Post WW1 Lancashire Fusiliers Officers Service Dress Tunic of Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O) Holder and Veteran of Boer War and WW1, officers four pocket shoulder rank tunic of a Colonel in the Lancashire Fusiliers with bronze regimental small pattern collar badges, bronzed rank insignia with red cloth underlay, brass regimental tunic buttons to the front, pockets and shoulder boards. Medal ribbon bar above breast pocket. Tunic is constructed in good early style ribbed cloth material. Cloth lining to the interior remains in very good condition showing just light service wear. Sadly the tunic is not named.

WW1 British Tank Crew Face Mask Worn By Lance Corporal Francis J Barker, 15th Battalion Tank Corps, Awarded the Military Medal for Bravery During the Attack on Flesquieres 27th September 1918, Leather covered steel face section with slotted eye section. Chamois covered reverse. Complete with chainmail linked bottom. Complete with the original cloth tape ties. Some light scuffs to the brown leather but generally a very good example. Accompanied by a small brass framed photograph of Barker in uniform wearing his MM medal ribbon. The Military Medal appeared in the London Gazette: 14th May 1919, the citation for the award in the roll of honour is as follows, “304657 L/Cpl Berker, Francis J. 15th Battn. Awarded MM. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action on the occasion of the attack on Flesquieres on September 27, 1918. He was wounded in the face whilst placing unditching gear in position under shell fire. In spite of his wound he remained at his task until he was again wounded in the neck. He volunteered to remain with the tank, but his officer handed him over to infantry stretcher-bearers.” Francis John Barker who was a local of Camberwell, London, originally enlisted into the 1/24 (County of London) Battalion London Regiment, serving with them after the 1 January 1916. He was wounded in action on the 24 September 1916, whilst serving near High Wood. In 1917 he transferred to the 15th Battalion, Tank Corps, and served with them until the end of the war, where on the 27 September 1918, he displayed gallantry of a notable kind during his battalion’s advance in conjunction with the Grenadier Guards on the Hindenburg Line and the town of Flesquires. The Battalion advanced gallantly with all of their 26 Tanks. By the ned of the action, there was only 8 tanks that answered the roll call, with many gallantry awards being given for this action. This grouping is being sold by the recipients grandson and has never been offered on the market before. Great War Union Jack Flag Carried by Drummer Billy Nichols, Decorated for Gallantry at the Battle of Cambrai, as a Runner Although Wounded by Shrapnel He Still Delivered His Message, an interesting multipiece construction union jack flag with brass rings to the edge. Interesting white cotton edged example. No markings or dates. Worn and stained. Accompanied by a newspaper cutting relating to Drummer Billy Nichols and his friend, later brother-in-law Billy Kingsman, who also served in the Scottish Rifles. The newspaper article states that Billy Nichols was wounded by shrapnel during the Battle of Cambrai while acting as a runner, it was for this action that he was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery.
WW1 British 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Presentation Sword of Captain George Ernest Spencer DSO MC Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, blade by J R Gaunt etched and polished with crowned GR cipher, foliage and ‘DEO GRATIAS TO OUR BELOVED SON CAPT G.E.SPENCER, DSO, MC, WHO WENT TO FIGHT A JUST CAUSE ON BEHALF OF HIS KING & COUNTRY IN THE GREAT EUROPEAN WAR OF 1914/18. HIS ACTIONS AND HEROISM SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS JER XLV11-VI’. Regulation hilt with bullion dress knot, wire bound fish skin covered grip, in its leather field service scabbard with plated mounts. Blade 83cms. Good condition, blade retains most original polish, hilt and scabbard with age wear. George Ernest Spencer was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for gallantry, the citation for the award was as follows, “When his Battalion moving to positions prior to an attack, was located by a low flying aeroplanes, the courage and skill he displayed in handling the leading Company enabled the Battalion to take cover with light casualties. Later when the Battalion was held up by machine gun fire and subjected to heavy shelling the advance posts being driven in, he called up a Lewis gun section which promptly got into action and shouting for his Company to follow he charged the enemy. His fine example was followed by other Companies, the enemy driven back with heavy casualties and a critical situation restored”. His medal group was offered by Bosleys Military Auctioneers on 6th November 2013
