WW1 London Irish, RFC, RAF Officer Group of Medals. Awarded to Lieutenant Bertie Ernest Turney who was commissioned into the 18th Bn London Irish London Regiment and qualified as a Pilot with the Royal Flying Corps in August 1916.Comprising: British War Medal, Victory Medal LIEUT B.E. TURNEY RAF. This pair is contemporary mounted on a bar with the ribbons of the Territorial Force War Medal and the Territorial Efficiency Medal. Accompanied by a corresponding group of four miniature medals Uniform medal ribbon bar Also a RFC OSD Cap Badge blades absent. (4 parts) Bosleys have been unable to find any reference to the TFWN and TEM having been issued and would explain the ribbons only. Lieutenant Bertie Ernest Turney was commissioned into the London Irish, before been attached to the RFC qualifying as a Pilot on the 1st August 1916 He served with 47 Squadron and 55 Squadron and transferred to Egypt. He was posted to the RAF unemployed list in May 1919, but appears to returned to the London Irish, where the Army list of 1921 shows him serving as a Major. On the 26th October 1929 he was flying as a passenger on an Imperial Airways Short Calcutta which crashed of the coast of Italy All the crew and passengers drowned. PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER ONLY

London Scottish badges including: Shoulder titles, Glengarry and sporran badges. etc. Lieutenant Stuart Riviere Calkin enlisted into the London Scottish in 1909 serving 3 years he was discharged in 1912, only to be recalled to the Colours in 1914. He landed in France on the 24th November 1914. He was selected for a commission and returned home being commissioned into the 1/8th Cyclist Bn of the Essex Regiment. He attended the Bomb School at Clapham Common in 1916 and qualified as a Bombing Instructor. 1st Bn Coldstream Guards Campaign Medals of Lieut.-Colonel Sir Charles Arthur Andrew Frederick GCVO KCB Sir Charles served with the 1st Bn during the Egypt campain and was later appointed Master of the King's Household and an Extra Equerry to King Edward VII and to Queen Alexandra.Comprising: 1902 Coronation Medal, 1911 Coronation Medal, Egypt Medal, clasp Suakin 1885 LIEUT C.A.A.FREDERICK 1/ COLDm GDS, Order of Medjidie (small chip to crescent enamel), Khedive Star 1884-6. The group remains mounted as originally worn, with tailors details of Hunt and Roskell Ltd to the reverse. Lieut.-Colonel Sir Charles Arthur Andrew Frederick GCVO KCB alongside his military duties was attached to the Royal Household holding the post of Master of the King's Household and an Extra Equerry to King Edward VII and to Queen Alexandra and later to King George V. Comprising: Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (C1066) Queen’s South Africa Medal, 5 clasps Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, LIEUT E.B. FREDERICK 2/RL FUS, Kings South Africa Medal, 2 clasps South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902, (LT RL FUSRS), 1914/15 Star(CAPT R.FUS), British War Medal, Victory Medal (MAJOR), Defence Medal, GVR Jubilee Medal, GVIR Coronation Medal. Group remains mounted as originally worn. The group is accompanied by his wives WW2 Defence Medal (Private engraved LADY E.K.C. FREDERICK). Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Edward Boscawen Frederick CVO, 9th Baronet was born 1880 and after Sandhurst in 1899 was commissioned into the Royal Fusiliers, seeing service with the 2nd Bn during the Boer War. Following the end of the Boer War he returned with his Battalion and was posted as an Instructor at Aldershot, from 1903 to 1907 he made five appearances for Hampshire and took 9 wickets. He landed in France with the 3rd Bn on the 7th March 1915 and in May 1915 was severely wounded. He returned to duty and resigned his commission in 1919. In 1925, he was appointed an Exon in the King's Bodyguard of the Yeomen of the Guard. He served as Ensign from 1937 until his retirement in 1950. He succeeded to the baronetcy in 1938 upon on the death of his brother, Charles Edward St John Frederick. During the Second World War, he commanded a battalion of the Home Guard and in the New Year Honours list of 1944 was appointed a CVO. He died in 1956. PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER ONLY

(2 items) Captain William Victor Johnson was appointed an Ensign in the 90th Foot June 1840 and promoted Lieutenant 1845 and Captain 1849. WW1 / WW2 Emotive Belgiun Resistance Family Group of Medals Dachau Prisoner. This emotive group records the sacrifice and service of the Joassin family of Herstal Belgium.The medal group of Pierre Joassin a Belgian agent working for the British during WW1 and continued the resistance against the Nazi’s arrested and deported to Dachau concentration camp as a political prisoner in February 1945.Comprising: Liege Medal 1914, War Medal, Victory Medal, Medal of Armed Resistance, War Commemoration Medal, British War Medal, P. JOASSIN. Medals loose. This group is accompanied by original Dachau uniform cloth inverted red triangle with printed “B” indicating a Belgian Political Prisoner. ... White cloth uniform strip with stencilled number 141282 (prisoner number confirmed). ... Lapel badge gilt & enamel blue and white strips with triangle and B with initials CNPPA-NCPGR ... Similar badge red enamel triangle with B and Dachau above. Items believed attributed to Michel Pierre Joassin son of Pierre who also served with the resistance and was arrested and killed in 1943.Medal of Armed Resistance ... 1946 dated letter sent as a reply to an equerry from Pierre as to the circumstances and location of his sons death. The address is given as Herstal.Medal Group believed to be the brother of Pierre Joassin.1914, War Medal, Victory Medal, British War Medal “M. JOASSIN”. Medals loose.The groups are accompanied by a small number of lapel badges, etc including a small bronze none portable award embossed “LUC-MARC 1940 1945”. Both brothers single entitlement of the British War Medal are confirmed and shown as Belgian Agents. Pierre Joassin was born in 1896, presumably living at Herstal which was the home of the Belgium arms factory Fabrique Nationale. The town was over run by the Germans on the 7th August 1914, ten houses were destroyed and 27 civilians killed. Little is at present known to the work Pierre and his brother undertook for the British during the war. Surviving Pierre continued to live in the town and in 1923 his son Michel-Pierre was born. Pierre’s services against the Germans would once again be needed with the declaration of war once more against German, the arms factory would once more be a wanted price by the Nazi’s. Pierre is confirmed as working for the resistance with his son, however on the 23rd March Pierre was arrested and his son was arrested three days later and killed. Imprisoned by the Nazi’s he was eventually deported to Dachau Concentration Camp arriving on the 16th February 1945 categorised as a Political Prisoner, his prison number confirmed as “141282”. Surviving he was liberated and returned home to Rue Large Voie 83 Herstal to start the search for his son. PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER ONLY

Awarded to Pilot Officer Richard Edward Bragg a pilot of 78 Squadron who was shot down on the 14th May 1943 by Helmut Lent, the second highest German night fighter ace with 102 night kills.Comprising: 1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, War Medal. Accompanied by Condolence forwarding slip typed name PILOT OFFICER R.E. BRAGG. These are contained in the original medal forwarding box addressed to Mrs A Bragg (Mother) of Nuthall Nottinghamshire. The group is complemented by a British War Medal and Victory Medal M2-102390 PTE R.E BRAGG ASC (Father). Pilot Officer Richard Edward Bragg an experienced pilot of 78 Squadron which flew the Halifax Bomber was tasked with operations to Bochum on the night of the 13/14 May 1943. Taking off from RAF Linton-on-Ouse his aircraft was attacked by Helmut Lent and shot down over Holleweg Wijnaldum. WW2 RAF Bomber Command Aircrew Europe Star Medal and Log Book Group. Awarded to Flight Lieutenant L.B Dower, who completed a full tour of operations with 420 Squadron. Comprising: Medal Group: 1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal. Medals Loose. Aircrew Log Book detailing 31 operations as a rear gunner, with photographs of Dower as a Sergeant and an Officer. Service and Release book. Flight Lieutenant L.B Dower volunteered for aircrew and was selected as an air gunner, his log book notes his first flight on the 16th September 1943. At 24 OTU now a qualified Rear Gunner he teamed up with Squadron Leader G. McKenna as his pilot (Who would later command 420 Squadron). He would follow his pilot to a posting with 420 Squadron in January 1944 and he flew his first Op to Stuttgart on the 20th February. A steady flow of operations followed with his 10th trip on the 6th June D-Day listed as “Coutances” Bridge Busting. His 13th op a nerve racking number for any bomber crew but more so on this occasion as he was briefed for a daylight raid with a fighter escort to Boulougne. He flew his 31st operation on the 12th October 1944 completing his tour. Commissioned Pilot Officer in February 1945 he was posted to Athens and flew with Transport command, his log records a number flights his duty noted as Nav, WOP/AG and 2nd Pilot flying in an Anson. Covering a period of 30th November 1942 to 16th June 1946. gives detailed accounts of operations, Agent drops, supply drops, Glider Towing, etc. A remarkable photographic archive showing shots of gliders and aircraft air to air, including gliders on route to Arnhem. Plus other ephemera. Also included are the medals awarded to Flight Lieutenant Andrews father awarded to M. 85189 W R ANDREWS SHPT HMS RENOWN. Comprising: 1914/15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, 1939/45 Star, Atlantic Star, War Medal. Mounted as worn, but please note WW2 medals in box of issue. Flight Lieutenant George Frederick Andrews on joining the RAF volunteered for aircrew and trained as a Navigator. His logbook records his first flight on the 30th November 1942. Whilst at 28 OTU he undertook his first operation over enemy territory on the 11th June 1943 a Nickel run to Le Man’s the port engine of the Wellington bomber noted as U/S. In January 1944 he was posted to 295 Squadron although classified as Transport Command the squadron was operational flying the Albemarle twin engineed aircraft. His first mission with 295 was to Le Man’s on the 11 March 1944 6 containers + 2 Packages, the later usually referring to a SOE agent. The squadron undertook Glider towing training and the log reports on the 5/6 June 1944 “Operation Tonga Invasion of continent France 10 Paratroopers 4 containers dropped near Caen at 00.24 No. 4 aircraft”. These would be some of the first Allied troops to land at part of D Day. The log then states for the 6th June “Operation Mallard Horsa tow (7,000 lbs) OX and Bucks 6th Airborne Div Landed at Benouville NE Caen at 20.53 No5 aircraft”. The following moths saw a steady flow of supply and agent dropping and on the 17th September 1944 “Operations Holland Mass Airborne operation on Dutch-German frontier behind enemy lines Horsa tow (Lt Turner + Sgt Hamilton) carrying Portion Airborne HQ landed 10 miles S S W of Nijmegen). This operation is complimented by a number of original photographs showing gliders being towed and also landed on the ground. He would return to the Arnhem area supply drops on the 19th, 20th and 23rd September, each time listing the drop contents and reporting heavy flak. In November he took part in a supply drop to Norway. He ended his tour with the squadron in December 1944 and in February 1945 was posted to 109 OTU and then in June 1945 was seconded as a navigator to BOAC. He was released from the RAF in August 1946 and continued to work as a navigator in the commercial sector. Walter Robert Andrew was a Dockyard Shipwright who enlisted into the Royal Navy in 1915. Remaining with the RN after the end of the Great War, he was pensioned in 1936 and recalled at the outbreak of the second world war. PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER ONLY

2nd Life Guards Attributed Waterloo and Military General Service MINIATURE Medal Pair. This pair are attributed to Captain Alexander McInnes of the 2nd Life Guards who oil painting portrait by Ramsay Richard Reinagle hangs in the National Army Museum London. Comprising: Military General Service Medal, clasp Vittoria, Waterloo Medal. These have been attractively mounted into a Spink quality Mahogany table frame. This frame would have at one time housed the full size medals and were mounted with a Victorian Life Guards pouch badge and a representation of the portrait. The miniature medals are unnamed. Frame Size 11 x 9 inches. Captain Alexander McInnes portrait is probably the most recognised of the period depicting an Officer of the Life Guards Waterloo Period. He was appointed a Cornet of the 2nd Life Guards in 1809, he became a Lieutenant in 1810 and Captain whilst serving in the Peninsula in 1813. Resigning his commission in 1814 he rejoined with the rank of Cornet and fought with the Regiment at Waterloo and took part in Uxbridge’s charge against d’Erlon’s corps. Royal Navy Japan Yokohama 1923 Earthquake Meritorious Service Medal Group of Four. A rare group awarded to Sick Berth Attendant William Bilton RN who was awarded an immediate Meritorious Service Medal for his work during the Yokohama earthquake disaster of 1923. Comprising: British War Medal, Victory Medal, M. 18103 W BILTON S.B.A. RN, Royal Navy Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (GVR) S.B.P.O. HMS EGMONT, Meritorious Service Medal (GVR) M.18103 W. BILTON S.B.A. YOKOHAMA SEPTEMBER 1923. The group remains mounted as originally worn. The announcement of the MSM appeared in the London Gazette on the 15th January 1924.Warrant Wardmaster William Bilton enlisted into the Royal Navy in 1915 and was appointed a Sick Berth Attendant, he saw service at Haslar Hospital and sea service onboard HMS Europa and HMS HMS Caesar. Remaining with the RN after the end of the war he served at Dublin in March 1920. On the 7th December he was posted to Yokohama Hospital as part of the China Fleet. On the 1st September 1923 Tokyo and the City of Yokohama were struck by 7.9 earthquake. Bilton’s medical effects in the relief war would earn him along with two other men the award of the MSM recommended by the C-in-C China. In 1931 with the rank of S.B.A. Petty Officer he was awarded the LS&GC Medal. Still serving in WW2 he was commissioned Warrant Wardmaster in 1941 and in 1942 is noted as serving at the Naval Hospital Minterne Magna. PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER ONLY

WW1 Indian Army 36th Jacobs Horse Officers Casualty MC Winners 1914 Mons Star. Awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Maxwell Montague Carpendale MC who died on the 14th October 1918. Comprising: 1914 Mons Star CAPT M.M. CARPENDALE 36/HORSE. This is an Indian mint issue as confirmed on the Medal Index Card. Lieutenant Colonel Maxwell Montague Carpendale MC was born in India in 1883. He was commissioned in 1902 in the 36th Jacobs Horse. He was promoted to Captain in 1911 and with this rank landed in France on the 7th November 1914. Various sources indicate he was awarded the MC in July 1916 and he was later posted to the Middle East. Whilst serving at Damascus with the rank of Acting Lt Col he died on the 14th October 1918.
