PROVENANCE FOR NEXT TWO LOTS: From the estate of Felix and Aletta Deane (Barry) and thence by direct descent through the family to the present vendors. An 1880 Clapham Rovers Football Club Football Association Challenge Cup gold winners medal awarded to Felix Barry, engraved CRFC 1880 to reverse side and Football Association Challenge Cup to the other side, 24mm diameter, with suspension ring, in later black leather box. Catalogue Note: It was Clapham Rovers second appearance in an FA Cup final losing to the Etonions in 1879, they beat Oxford University 1-0 at the Kensington oval ground in the 1880 final. Felix Barry who at that time was a merchants clerk from Lewisham played in one of the five forward roles in the team. Felix Barry was born in 1858 and was christened on 29th Sept 1858 at St John the Baptist Church in the parish of Leytonstone, Essex. He was the eldest of six children to Charles Ainslee Barry and Edith Barry. He became an agent stock jobber in the city of London, after the 1880 final and played amateur golf, winning the Brooks cup in 1892 (see following lot 103). In later years he played competition croquet. Felix died in Dec 1933 aged 75
A group of mainly ladies` golfing medals relating to the Barry family, to include an 1892 silver medal presented to Felix Barry for winning The Brooks Cup (see previous lot 102) and golfing members` badges and medals won by Aletta Barry, to include a 9ct gold Lady`s Pictorial Golf competition badge 1914, Midland Championship Team silver medal 1913 and a Gloucestershire County Ladies` Golf Championship badge (14) Catalogue Note: Aletta Felicia Barry b.1885 (known as Letty) was a highly regarded amateur lady golfer at a time when the professional game did not exist in the ladies` tour. The daughter of Felix Barry and cousin of A G Barry, 1905 amateur champion, Aletta attended the St Leonards Independent School for Girls in St Andrews. From the early years of the 20th century she was playing competition golf, competing for England in international matches.

A Norfolk and Norwich Horticultural Society Spring Show Medal, 1926, awarded to Wansford Nurseries, a Peterborough Agricultural Society medal, 1925, awarded to Wansford Nurseries for Rock Garden, a further medal, 1927, Wansford Horticultural and Craft Society, a copper medal 2006, and three East of England Agricultural Society silver dishes, 'Conservation Special Prize' presented by The President, His Grace, The Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry. Trawler 'Cleon' on 1 Feb 1918, aged 20, another to Private Robert Sydney Anderson, 1st Lincolnshire Yeomanry, who died 28 November 1917, aged 21, a plated cigarette case 'presented by the inhabitants of Whaplode Drove & district, to Albert Beagles who served in the Great War 1914-19' and a Second World War Victory Medal.
