10th (Royal) Hussars silver medal, 41mm diam. Obv: P.O.W feather plume within Garter “Prince of Wales’s Own”, above a scroll “Royal Hussars” set within a wreath of roses, thistles and shamrocks. Rev: mounted Hussar within similar wreath with engraved date 1846 below; the suspender being a hinged bar. The edge engraved in script “Presented to Sergt Thos Oldbury by his Bror Sergts and Sergt Majors as a mark of their esteem” (Bulmer R63). GVF Note: Thomas Oldbury born Birmingham 1798, attested at Weymouth Dorset 22nd April 1819, promoted Sergeant 4th June 1829, and was Armourer Sergeant for 16 years. He left the service in April 1846, aged 48, as being unfit to proceed with his regiment to India or for any further service on account of his age. His trade was shown as lock maker and the 1851 census shows the 53 year old as a Gun lock maker in Birmingham. He died in 1876

This example is of the E Avern type based on Pistrucci’s official coronation medal and which was distributed to, and worn by, the Buckinghamshire Yeomanry Cavalry Hussars who acted as escort on Coronation day. Edge engraved “John Humphreys 2nd Regt B.Y.C.H”. VF/NVF. Plate 1

Diam 50mm, GVF and similar in design to the silver Volunteer medal given for 1848 Birmingham Riots. 26th Foot 1823 AE regimental medal, obv Religion seated presenting a medal to a soldier, rev. crowned crossed Regimental Colours on bible; by Rundell, Bridge and Rundell. 5th Foot Order of Merit, with struck obverse and engraved reverse, diam 35mm, with ornate loop suspender. Obv. representation of St George slaying dragon with scroll “Quo Fata Vocant” above and scroll “Vth Foot” below; rev engraved “Jefy Morris After 21 Yrs Good Faithful Service as a Soldier hath received from his commanding offr this honorable testimonial of his Merit” and dated in exergue “June the 4th 1769”. See Balmer R171 for similar and of same date. A Post 1836 Merit medal bearing the designation V Northumberland Fusiliers, diam 34mm, un-named, in bronze. NVF (2)

A brass and white metal helmet plate of the Leicestershire Regiment, centred by a tiger and 'Hindoostan'; a white metal bagde centred by a crowned 'VR' monogram in a wreath of oak-leaves, a Turkish Crimea Medal, un-named Sardinian issue; together with a paperweight with a portrait of Prince Albert in uniform. 1866 Fenian Raid, Veteran Association Medal. A bronze and gilt eight-pointed star the central boss with a bust of Victoria before a maple leaf, surrounded by the inscription, 'Veterans' Association 1866', on red, white and blue ribbon with additional red ribbon inscribed, 'Committee 1899'. Between 1866 and 1871, the Fenian Brotherhood, based in the USA, launched raids on British army forts, customs posts and other targets in Canada, to bring pressure on Britain to withdraw from Ireland. There were five Fenian raids of note and all of them ended in failure.
1916-1966 Commemorative medals, commemorative coin set and related Vincze and O'Connor's 1966 silver medals, a 1966 mint coin set, eight first day covers, Bolands Mills 1916-1966 commemorative booklet, three gilt metal Claidmh Solas lapel pins; also an Eamon de Valera silver commemorative medal.
1791-1792. Third Mysore War. East India Company silver medal for military service. The medals were mainly given to native Indian troops. This large size was awarded to the higher ranks - Jemadars and Serangs. Obverse: a Sepoy holding a Union Jack and the (inverted) flag of Mysore, the fortress of Seringapatam behind. Reverse: legend in English and Arabic, with loop. 43mm, toned, very fine and scarce. The Third Anglo–Mysore War (1790–1792) was a conflict in South India between the Kingdom of Mysore and the East India Company and its allies, including the Maratha Empire and the Nizam of Hyderabad. It was the third of four Anglo–Mysore Wars.
1916-50. Interesting trio of medals to a Scottish family involved in the 1916 Rising. An intriguing group of medals with a 1916-66 'Survivor's' medal, awarded to recipients of the 1916 Rising Service Medal who were still alive in 1966, a Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Merite (French National Order of Merit) and a Glasgow Corporation Bravery Medal inscribed to Michael McGaleagly, 1945 with a letter from City of Glasgow Police commending Michael McGaleagly for his rescue of children from a burning house. Michael's father, James McGaleagly (1890-1924) served in the GPO during the 1916 Rising; his mother applied for a pension, claiming membership of Cuman na mBan from 1916 which was refused but she was awarded a 1917-21 Service Medal. An uncle, John Gallogly, a brother of James Galeagly, also fought in the 1916 Rising. Worth further research.
Canada General Service Medal with Fenian Raid 1866 clasp To 'Pte. C. Goudreau, 2nd. 1 Co. Three R.' Between 1866 and 1871, the Fenian Brotherhood, based in the USA, launched raids on British army forts, customs posts and other targets in Canada, to bring pressure on Britain to withdraw from Ireland. There were five Fenian raids of note and all of them ended in failure. The clasp on this medal was awarded to Canadian troops involved in the defence and defeat of the Fenians. The medal is to Private Goudreau, 2nd Infantry Company, Third Regiment.

L.I., comprising 1914-15 Star, British War medal, 1914-1920, Victory medal, 1914-1919, together with a Death Plaque for Albert Crockford and two postcard portraits of Albert Berkley Crockford in military uniform (6) Note: Private A. Crockford, Somerset Light Infantry, C-Company 1st Battalion, Killed in Action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1st July 1916. Named on Thiepval Memorial.
