He was given the rank of Colonel on retirement.Apparently this lot is listed as stolen on the Great War Forum which mystifies our vendor who is the grandson of the recipient.

Original vintage advertising poster for Hercules Bicycles, celebrating Frank Southall setting a new London-York record and a new 12 hour Record on a Hercules bicycle. The design shows a photograph of Southall cycling, with a map of Great Britain in yellow, surrounded by blue sea in the background. Text gives details of the records and includes the slogan Hercules The Sweetest Running Cycle. William Frank Southall was an English road cyclist and olympic medal holder. He raced as a professional rider for Hercules from 1934, setting records on Hercules bikes as a promotional exercise. Fair condition, folds, creasing, tape marks, paper loss, staining, foxing.
