Gazetted 22nd April 1918, '2nd Lt. Walter James Brumbley, Norf. R. Spec. Res. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When in command of a selection of a party raiding the hostile trenches, he led his men into the enemy line and took a prominent part in the sharp fight which ensued, accounting for four of the enemy himself. Having bombed some dug-outs, he established a defensive flank, until with withdrawal was ordered. Throughout the operation he showed exceptional courage and coolness, memorial to Second Lieutenant Walter James Brumbley is at Pozieres Memorial panel 23, (1)
