A rare British Patriotic propaganda doll of Lord Horatio Kitchener of Khartoum, c.1898, stuffed cloth doll of Lord Kitchener, with painted china head, hands and boots, the doll wearing a period officer's uniform, complete with puttee leg straps, brass buttons, leather belt, peaked hat, medal ribbons, a rare doll of Lord Kitchener, one of the earliest known "celebrity" dolls, overall length 18½in. (47cm.). * Lord Kitchener was one of the most celebrated war heroes of the late Victorian period.
A BOER WAR-GT WAR QUEENS-SLI GROUP OF SIX MEDALS. A Queens South Africa medal with two bars, Transvaal & Orange Free State. A Kings South Africa medal with bars, S Africa 1901 & 1902. Both named to 6182 Cpl W Greenslade The Queens. British War & Victory medals named to 19923 Pte W J Greenslade Som LI. An Imperial Service Medal GV1, named to William J Greenslade. A 1934/35 dated safe driving medal, named to W J Greenslade. William Greenslade served in South Africa and was awarded the QSA with clasp Orange Free State, for service in the 2nd Battalion The Queens. He then served in India with the 1st Battalion from the 27th March 1902. A later list approves the Transvaal clasp award. 19923 William James Greenslade (act L/Cpl) served in the 4th Battalion (Territorial) Somerset Light Infantry, being placed on Class Z Reserve in 1919.
A W W 11 R NAVY DESTROYER CASUALTY GROUP. In box of issue with a condolence slip, a 1939/45 Star, Atlantic Star, Africa and Italy Stars, also a War Medal. Addressed to Mr N E Hale of 25 Compton Street, Southampton, Hants. It is unclear what the 6th medal or emblem shown was, though possibly a Burma or Pacific Star. The casualty slip is named to George Arthur Hale. Also hand written by a R Navy clerk from Dir of Navy accounts on the side of the box ... Wills 3639/1944 George Arthur Hale of the Destroyer H M S Laforey, was Killed in Action on the 30th March 1944, aged 29 years. The son of Norman and Emily Hale, of 25 Compton Walk, Southampton, Hampshire. The well recorded actions in the Destroyer 'Laforey', took place mostly in the Mediterranean theatre of war. However at some time she also served in the Far East, searching for German 'Commerce Raiders'. An 'L' Class Destroyer of 1,920 Tons, launched in 1941 with a crew complement of 221 Officers and Men. Her number was G99, she was after various Atlantic duties, transferred to Force H. She stood by to take on survivors, as the Carrier Ark Royal sank. It was during this time in company with HMS Hesperus, she attacked U-93. Later to serve in the Indian Ocean from Mombasa, she was quickly recalled to rejoin Force H. It was in company with two other ships and a tug, they rescued some 927 survivors from the Carrier HMS Eagle. Amid patrols and anti-submarine actions, she also took part in the Sicily Landings. In company with HMS Eclipse, they attacked and forced to surface the Italian Submarine Asciargte on the 3rd July 1943 with she sank with gunfire. It was on the 30th March 1944 that with other ships, she searched for and attacked U-223. Before she was lost U 223 fired a salvo of Torpedoes, of which three hit Laforey. Sinking quickly only 65 survivors were rescued from the 247 crew and officers. A book published in 1957 by Petty Officer Ronald Sired a member of the crew, tells of her almost non-stop action and demise. 'Enemy Engaged' tells her story.

A gilt bronze medallion of 40mm diameter, Ludovicus Magnus Rex Christianissimus obverse. Ludovicus XV D G Fr et Nav Rex, reverse, lacking its suspender. (2)
A QSA-KSA PAIR TO THE R DUBLIN FUSILIERS. A Queens South Africa Medal with three bars, Cape Colony- Orange Free State and Transvaal. Named to 3740 Pte T Donohoe Rl Dubin Fus, with faint 'Ghost' dated reverse (Wreath pointing to R). A Kings South Africa Medal with bars South Africa 1901 and S Africa 1902, named to 3740 Pte T Donohoe Rl:Dublin Fus. The medal roll confirms the Medal and Bars awarded to the recipient, whilst serving with the 5th Battalion. KSA Roll not found at this time.
MEDALS GT/WAR & WW11 TO A R N - RNR OFFICER. A 1914/15 Star, British War & Victory Medals, named to M.6121 S G H Leyh 2. Wtr R N . Unnamed W W 11 Medals are the 1939/45 and Pacific Stars, Defence & War Medals. A cased 1938 dated Royal Naval Reserve Decoration, on its original plain green ribbon. Medal ribbon bars (3 rows) are full size, BEM, 1914/15 Star & Rosette, Bwm & Victory medals. 1937 Coronation Medal and RNR Decoration, with white edges on the ribbon (Correct for after 1941). The miniature bar is as the fullsize set, except in only (2 rows). Stanley George Hoare Leyh rose from 2nd writer to A/Chief Writer by the time he was awarded a BEM in December 1918. (Party per sec Allied Naval Council) L G 31/12/1918. The King has been pleased to confer the Medal (BEM) of the Most Excellent Order of The British Empire, upon the under-mentioned for Services in connection with the War. A/Ch Wtr S G H Leyh. In the 1930 Navy List he is a P Lieutenant R N R. Family providence states he was one of the last people out on a ship, from Hong Kong. It was during this retreat he was to save the life of the Tiger Balm King Later service was with the Royal Australian Navy, he never returned to Great Britain. Presumably he took part in the 1937 Coronation, whereby he was awarded the medal. The medal listing appears to show that he reapplied in 1948, for his Gt War Medals. It is also known he left at the last instance before the Japanese invaded, probably leaving his BEM and other medals behind. Again by family provenance he filled his car with all his valuable, and pushed it into the harbour during the final hours. The list is quite long, from officers requesting the same re-issues. He retired with the rank of Commander. A related African Safari Club medallion of New York , Presented to HIH Prince Abdorreza Pahlavi. April 29th 1971. 50mm in a bronze finish. Hunting World Inc. New York on the rim. With a copied photograph of him, wearing his medal ribbons.
