A group of four medals to 2683 Corporal (later Sergeant) W O Gardiner 9Coy RAMC, including: The Queen's Sudan Medal; Khedive's Sudan Medal with clasps for The Atbara and Khartoum; The Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith & Driefontein; and The King's South Africa Medal with clasps for South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902 together with the miniatures for all but the Queen's Sudan Medal, all lack ribbons, all engraved in upper case italic lettering, military number incorrectly given as 2863 on QSA (6)
Leonard Charles Wyon (British, 19th Century), Portrait of Robert Brettell Bate (1782-1847), signed and dated lower left "L Wyon, June 1842", pencil, 30 x 22cm (11.75 x 8.75in); and Portrait of Anna Maria Brettell Bate (1826- 1891), signed and dated lower left "L Wyon, Dec. 2nd 1843", pencil, 30 x 22cm (11.75 x 8.75in), a pair (2). Robert Brettell Bate was one of the most prolific and best-known London scientific instrument makers of the early nineteenth century, and operated from premises at 21 Poultry in the City of London. His wife, Anna Maria Brettell, was a daughter of Bartholomew Sikes, the inventor of the hydrometer. Leonard Charles Wyon was a member of the most celebrated family of British medal engravers. He is most famous for his design of the 'Bun Penny'. Queen Victoria gave him several sittings for this coin which she personally approved. Wyon was engraver to the Goldsmiths' Company

Partridge, AB-RN, an Edward VII Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal - As Awarded to 151794 James Partridge, Boatn HM Coast Guard, an 1894-1915 Soviet Russian Nicholas II Medal for Zeal, the rim inscribed 151794 J. Partridge AB HMS Jupiter, The Certificate of the Service of James Partridge in the Royal Navy. Footnote: In 1915 a cargo ship - SS Thracea laden with munitions and supplies got caught in ice off Archangel and HMS Jupiter was despatched to take in tow and into port, at some stage the tow rope parted and volunteers were requested to man the long boat and retrieve the ends of the tow rope and splice it together, in consequence 16 men manned the long boat and saved the Thracea and it was towed to Archangel. The sixteen men who manned the long boat were awarded a special silver medal for zeal and bravery personally by the Tsar of Russia on August the 4th 1916.
