A George V period civilian gallantry award medal group Awarded to William James Rudd comprising the George V bronze Edward medal (issued for industrial gallantry, only 163 of these have been issued since the medal was initiated in 1909), a bronze Liverpool shipwreck and humane society medal awarded to William Rudd for gallantry 14th November 1931, a Watham 9ct gold pocket watch awarded to William Rudd by his employers Whitecross Co Ltd in recognition of heroic endeavour to save human life on 14th October 1931 awarded on 20th February 1932, together with this lot is a photograph of William Rudd, a copy of the Liverpool shipwreck and humane society illuminated manuscript, a copy of the London Gazette dated 18th December 1931, William James Rudd rescued two work colleagues from a fire pit, sadly both colleagues died of their injuries, William Rudd was extremely proud of his award and wore it nearly every day. A World War I British Victory Medal named to G-14370 Pte C. Saunders R. Suss.R. Private Charles Saunders on the 12th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment was born in Midhurst, Sussex and was killed in the great Ypres attack on 31st July 1917. He is buried in the New Irish Farm cemetery Condition report: Good, the figure lightly rubbed
The Waterloo Medal and ribbon, the rim inscribed John Hughes 12th RegtLight Dragoons - Trooper John Hughes served with the 12th Light Dragoons at Salamanca and Vittoria during the Peninsular Wars. Hughes later served under Lord Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo, where the 12th lead the charge of Vandeleur's cavalry brigade. Nearly a third of the men of the 12th became casualties. Hughes and his Captain, Edwin Sandys were among the wounded. Sandys succumbed to his injuries shortly after the battle. The Colonel of the 12th, Frederick Ponsonby was also grievously wounded but survived. Hughes was pensioned in September 1827.
