A VICTORIAN C.B. GROUP OF FOUR MEDALS. Order of the Bath, Companion C.B. Military Division, gold (18ct) and enamel, with gold ribbon buckle, India Mutiny Medal with Delhi clasp, impressed (LIEUT B. WILLIAMS, KUMAON BATN), India Mutiny Medal with un-associated ribbon, Northwest Frontier and Jowaki 1877-8 clasps, impressed (ADJT LIEUT B. WILLIAMS, MOOLTANEE REGT CAVY), Afghanistan medal with Ali Musjid and Kabul clasps, engraved (LT COL: B, WILLIAMS, 5TH PUNJ: CAVY) London Gazette, August 31st, 1858. "The cavalry was employed, during the 26th, in clearing the country in the direction of the enemy's retreat, and to the right and left of Mohumdee. One party of Mooltanee Cavalry, under Lieutenant B. Williams, discovered a fort in which was found a large quantity of gunpowder, which was used in blowing it up; 3 guns were dug up there, and a large number of gun carriages evidently manufactured at Futtygurh. Three other guns were discovered in a village close at hand; several of the villages round were burnt, and, after completely scouring the country, the force returned to Shahjehanpore, which it reached on the morning of the 29th." A GREAT WAR M.M. AND PAIR MEDAL GROUP. Military Medal, impressed (210956 SPR: C. BURGESS. R.E.), War and Victory, impressed (210956 SPR. C. BURGESS. R.E.). Awarded to Lance Corporal Charles Burgess, 38th Div, Signal Coy, Royal Engineers. Awarded for conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty. Burgess showed great initiative and courage in laying a telephone line across the Ancre near Albert, during the operations 21/22nd August 1916. There was no bridge suitable, so Burgess, with his party, threw trees, boxes, etc across the river under heavy shell fire and successfully carried the line across the river. AN INTERESTING GREAT WAR M.C. AND PAIR MEDAL GROUP, AND LIFE SAVING CIGARETTE CASE. GV Military Cross contained in case of issue, War and Victory, impressed (CAPT. F.L.T. BARLOW.). Awarded to A/Captain Frank Lewis Thornhill Barlow M.C., Welsh Guards. With a photograph, silver Machine Gun Corps badges, miniatures and a letter sent to Captain F.L.T. Barlow, M.C. from King Edward VIII, thanking him for contribution to a wedding present o the occasion of Edward VIII and Wallice Simpson's marriage, inscribed and signed in ink 'Dear Barlow' 'Edward', sent from Hotel Meurice, Paris, 3rd Nov 1937. A/Captain Frank Lewis Thornhill Barlow, M.C. was saved from a serious wound or death by a silver cigarette case in his pocket. Included is the life saving cigarette case and a ball of shrapnel from an anti-personnel shell. Supplement to the London Gazette, 3rd JUNE, 1919. Provenance: Family by descent
