An original WWII Second World War Third Reich German Nazi Iron Cross medal (1st Class), likely by Rudolf Wachtler & Lange. Along with a similar period Icarette II ' 500 ' series bellows camera, within its original case. Provenance: both items were removed from a German Officer by the vendor's father during his time in the Second World War, and brought back home as souvenirs.

Tagung ' ( Germany & Japan) enamel pin badge with Swastika, Japanese flag & eagle to front, and along with his later Italian / German campaign medal (with ribbon) from when he joined the army. A WWI First World War medal pair to a Captain WS Lonsdale . Possibly of New Zealand origin. Accompanied by a torn period photograph of Lonsdale. Both medals with their original and correct ribbons. From the Blomfield / Fisher collection, but no provenance nor mention of a Lonsdale throughout the whole archive. Presumed to be a friend of one of the Blomfield family. Note: from the large Fisher / Blomfield family archive consigned to this sale. The collection comprises of items from Francis ' FMB ' Marion Bates Fisher (a famous Edwardian Tennis Player ) and features items from the lives of his entire family (most notably that of his eldest daughter Esther Fisher who went on to become an international pianist, his other daughter was Lady Esther Frances Barron and his youngest daughter Alice Blomfield (nee Fisher) whose husband - Siegfried Blomfield - was a noted soldier during WWII and whose daughter (Juliet Blomfield) went on to become a ballet dancer). The family owned many properties both in the UK and New Zealand, and were extremely well travelled. Their friends and acquaintances were some of the most notable characters of our time - Ernest Shackleton , Winston Churchill , Maxine Elliott , Henry Wadsworth Longfellow , John Singer Sargent but to name a few. An incredible collection, of great social interest.
A rare and fascinating collection of personal effects and militaria relating to a Sergeant ESR James 6469339 of the 52nd Oxfordshire & Buckinghamhire Light Infantry and 6th Airborne Division. Comprising of James' WWII Second World War medal group - France & Germany Star, War Medal, Defence Medal and 39-45 Star - his Oxf & Bucks ' Airborne ' battledress tunic (1944), various photographs, maps and related ephemera. Also within the collection are various laid-down items to scrapbook pages with many items relating to the 6th Airborne Division and the 52nd Light Infantry - various letters, invitations, prayer book, and many other pieces. Reports and letters from comrades are also present within the collection. James was likely involved in the Normandy Landings, and also likely involved in the crossing of the Rhine during that latter parts of the war. The 6th Airborne Division's first mission was Operation Tonga on 6 June 1944, D-Day, part of the Normandy landings, where it was responsible for securing the left flank of the Allied invasion during Operation Overlord. The division remained in Normandy for three months before being withdrawn in September. While still recruiting and reforming in England, it was mobilised again and sent to Belgium in December 1944, to help counter the surprise German offensive in the Ardennes, the Battle of the Bulge. Their final airborne mission followed in March 1945, Operation Varsity, the second Allied airborne assault over the River Rhine.
Sgt Siegfried Essex Blomfield - FMSVF ( Federated Malay States Volunteer Forces ) - 7370 . WWII Second World War medal group, comprising of; 39-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Efficient Service Medal (with Malaya clasp). Essex Blomfield was father to ballet dancer Juliet Blomfield, and husband to Alice Enid Blomfield (daughter to FMB Francis Marion Bates Fisher - New Zealand member of parliament and international tennis player). During WWII Essex Blomfield saw action in Singapore, Malaya and other surrounding areas. The collection comprises of several photographs of Blomfield during service, various correspondence to and from Essex during his service, a letter dated 5th April 1946 stating that Blomfield had been made a Prisoner Of War 'by the Japanese on the fall of Singapore, 15th Feb 1942,' a standard issue 'Welcome Home' letter from King George & Queen Mary, and a telegram from W.E Parry (Minister Of Internal Affairs) informing Essex's wife of his capture. Also included is the original medal card, Essex's pipe, a crudely carved wooden ID plaque (likely from his time in a prison camp), various related documents, a photograph album owned by Blomfield (during the First World War) which features many photographs of him, his family and their life etc. Finishing off the collection are a small quantity of letters dated 1970, written to his wife (Enid) from various friends upon Essex's death - one of which is from a fellow POW Hugo Hughes. Rare and important collection. Various other items from the Blomfield family feature within this auction, many relating directly to Siegfried Essex.
An original WWII Second World War medal group belonging to a Phillip Davey . Comprising of his War Medal, Defence Medal, Italy Star, Africa Star (with 1st Army bar), and 39-45 Star. All with ribbons, on bar. Also included with the lot is a small photograph showing Davey and comrade, his identification tags, various cap badges, a Sweetheart type brooch (with photograph of Davey) and his military issue pocket watch (AF). An astonishing and incredible large archive of personal effects relating to a PC (and later Sgt) 148 Albert Mead of the Bucks Constabulary in the 1920's & 1930's. The collection of effects, comprising of: 29 of Mead's 'beat' notebooks - each completely filled out in pencil with various notes of crimes / misdemeanours - hundreds of entries included (from petty theft, lost property, descriptions of assailants, crime scenes, sketches of accidents etc) each notebook stamped with a date to the first page (1930's) - a fascinating insight into the life of a 1930's Constable. Also included are a wealth of candid images (taken by Mead - he was a keen photographer) including several of road accidents - including one with a tractor, a Rolls Royce & a coach - all c1930's, many with the original negatives (some glass negatives) present. Various photographs of Mead in uniform, and his colleagues are also present. Mead's WWII Second World War era ' Police ' steel helmet is also included, along with his Defence and War medal (within the original box), his helmet badges, uniform buttons and identification numbers. Ephemera relating to Mead within this lot also includes; his handwritten training note book (from 1923) which details all the terminology and such of Police work, his official ' Police Jiu Jitsu ' manual, various guide books on Law and Motoring Law, a large Bucks Constabulary group photograph, and various other items - including a fabulous poster for a ' Police Dance ' and related items. A fine Order of the Medjidie and group of five awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Blewitt Ex. Kings Royal Rifle Corps, who died of wounds received in an air raid while commanding a Chinese Labour Battalion at Andrique, France on 4th September 1917. The group comprises - Queen's Sudan medal 1899, named - Bimbashi Blewitt 3/BN. E.A., Khedive's Sudan medal 1896 - 1908, with five clasps - Sudan 1897, Abu Hamed, The Atbara, Khartoum, Sudan 1899, named - Elkairn Blewitt Bey E.A., India General Service medal with clasp - N.E. Frontier 1891, named - Lieut. A. Blewitt 4th B.N. K.R.Rif.C., British War medal 1914 - 1920, named - Lt. Col. A. Blewitt, Victory medal, named - Lt. Col. A. Blewitt, Turkish Order of the Medjidee 3rd class neck badge. Sold with a fine portrait photograph of Lt. Col. Blewitt and a biographical sketch written by General Sir Edward Hutton K.C.B., K.C.M.G.Lt. Colonel Arthur Blewitt (1861 - 1917), was born in Pinner on 19th February 1861. He was educated at Eton and was gazetted to his first commission in the 33rd Regiment in 1883 and transferred to the 4th Battalion 60th Rifles later in the same year at Ferozepone, India. He served in India and Burma until 1893, having in 1891 taken part in the Manipur Expedition. In 1897 Blewitt was selected for service with the Egyptian Army, took part in the Nile Expedition of 1897, being present at the action of Abu Hamed (mentioned in despatches, London Gazette, 25th Jan 1898), also the Nile Expedition of 1898 and was present at the battle of Atbava and capture of Khartoum (twice mentioned in despatches, London Gazette, 24th May and 30th Sept. 1898 - brevet Major). He again served in the Nile Expedition of 1899, when he received the third class Order of the Medjidie. In 1900, he was selected by Lord Kitchener as Governor of the Upper Nice Province - a post he held with much success until 1903, when he re-joined his regiment at Malta and retired in 1905.Blewitt was a keen sportsman, big game hunter and traveller - frequently having shooting expeditions in India, Burma, Tibet, North America, South Africa and New Zealand. He was so attracted to New Zealand he settled there, buying a farm at Teneko in 1905.Being a gallant Englishman, he returned to England to the call of duty at the outbreak of the Great War and volunteered for service. In September 1914, he was promoted Lt. Colonel to command 13th Battn. Kings Royal Rifles, which he successfully did until June 1915. He was in charge of training camps and was subsequently sent to China to recruit a team of coolies to work in France, bringing them back to Europe in a chartered steamer. He was in command of the Chinese Labour Corps when he was killed, aged 56

Colonel W. E. BLEWITT C.M.G. R.A.Major General William Edward Blewitt (1854 - 1939) was born in Pinner and was educated at Harrow. He was commissioned at the R.A. on 12th February 1874 - promoted Captain 1st Aug. 1883, Major 14th March 1891 and Lt. Colonel 13th February 1900. He served in the Second Boer War where he was mentioned twice in General White's despatches on 2nd December 1899 and 23rd March 1900. During the War he was wounded and invalidid to England. He was awarded the C.B. in 1908, C.M.G. in 1900 and C.B.E. in 1919. He was secretary of the Ordnance Committee, Commandant of the School of Gunnery for Horse Artillery, Director of Artillery at the War Office, General Officer Commanding South Coastal Defence (1911 - 1914) and Portsmouth Garrison (1914 - 1916)
