Wilfred Fletcher Hill DFM - 1600374 formally of 6 Christchurch Gardens, Middlesex, including a Distinguished Flying Medal awarded April 1946, together with a copy of the accompanying letter from the Record Office, Royal Airforce Gloucester, together with the Kings letter from Buckingham Palace, a Burma Star with ribbon, Service Star and ribbon, and General Service Medal 1939/45, Relations WW1 Service medal and five other civil medals, together with an RAF ladies Wings badge. Documents include Royal Canadian Airforce pilot flying log book, Royal Airforce service and release book, collection of photographs including personal and group photographs, two singed Wings graduation banquet docs. which list the graduating classes, two Royal Canadian Airforce material badges, other material badges, two British passports and other associated booklets relating to service in Burma and Far East. The award of the DFM had the following citation, Flight Sgt. Wilfred Fletcher Hill RAF vr. who attended Ward Street Central School from 1933 to 1936, and resided at 17 Freeman street, Higginshaw, has been awarded the DFM, he joined the RAF in October 1941 and served with his brother, and served with both bomber and transport commands. The majority have been flown in bad monsoon weather over difficult mountainous terrain. He is described as a keen pilot of outstanding skill who had always displayed determination to complete his allotted task and great courage and devotion to duty.

John Henry Howard RN (1827 - 1926) including diary covering his early years, 1835 - 1840, first posting on board HMS Rodney at Devonport in September 1840; ALS to his father from the naval instructor on Rodney reporting on the young midshipman, 1841; ms. sea chart in ink of "Part of the Querimba Islands (1827)" with pencil note by JHH "HMS Hydra got aground on coral in endeavouring to go through Dupont pass… came off without damage."; covering letter from the Admiralty awarding him the medal for services in Egypt (this crossed out and replaced with Syria in ms., torn), 1850; letter advising him of his election as Honorary Member of the Royal Yacht Squadron, 1875; letter from General Sir William Jervis and others, printed Souvenir of the Royal Naval Exhibition [1891], 8vo., orig. cloth gilt, photographic illustrations; album, fine ridged green calf, a.e.g., with gilt clasps in orig. cloth box, containing mainly family portrait photographs, window mounted, but including the Prince and Princess of Wales, and group at the Naval College Portsmouth, 1862. (a lot) Capt. Howard was the second son of the Very Rev. Hon. Henry E.J. Howard, Dean of Lichfield (see lot XXX), and lived at Rushett, Faversham, Kent. The incident relating to HMS Hydra took place on 20th Feb. 1854 in the Indian Ocean off Mozambique.

A group of four WW1 medals including a military cross, awarded to a soldier from Cambridge, the group comprising the Victory medal, 1914-1915 star and the British War medal, in their original cardboard cases, all named, and the military cross in the original fitted case, un-named, along with the matching dress set, contained in a small leather travelling attache case along with copies of the newspaper report, and other personal records. Provenance: 2ND LT ARTHUR REGINALD WADSWORTH MC of 'The Laurels', Newmarket Road, Cambridge, attended Framlingham College 1905-1907, served in Royal Engineers and later in the Machine Gun Corps. He was awarded the Military Cross on 26 November 1917: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the situation was obscure in the early stages of the attack, he carried out a personal reconnaissance under heavy shell fire. With the information which he gained he was able to appreciate the position and bring direct fire to bear on important targets. Though wounded, he remained at duty with great courage and untiring energy for a further 26 hours, keeping his only remaining 2 guns in action with great effect. His cheerfulness and utter disregard of danger were a splendid example to his men." Wadsworth finished the war in a prisoner of war camp.
