A fascinating collection of militaria relating to Sergeant Major George Corsons of the Ninth Foot Regiment comprising a display case containing part of his uniform, 1842 Cabul medal, Sutlej 1845-46 Medal for Moodkee 1845 with Ferozeshuhur and Sobraen clasps, military badge and Hereford Militia buttons and a sampler embroidered with a soldier and his dog and details of 'Engagements Afghanistan 1842'; a framed Sampler recording ''The engagements of H.M.IXth Regiment - Peninsula worked by Harriet Brown aged 11 years and 6 months 1851'' and a framed embroidered picture of a girl with castanets; two other framed embroidered pictures, a Silver Goblet engraved ''Presented by the Sergeants of the 2nd Royal Lanark Militia to Sergt. Major Corson in testimony of their esteem 18th June 1856'', maker WSC Edinburgh 1806, 690 gms. approx., a Victorian Dress Sword and scabbard, a K18 Gold cased key-wound pocket watch by Golaz, Geneve having milled edge case and engine turned back, inscribed within: ''Presented to Sergt Major G. Corsons, 9th Regt by the Sergts of the Corps as a small token of the high respect and esteem in which he was held by them during the period of his service Malta, 18th Novr 1854'' and in a J.W. Benson leather case; a Malacca Cane with Silver top decorated with Thistles, terminating with a large faceted crystal (cracked) and with the inscription: ''To Segt. Major G. Corsons on his leaving the 2nd regt. Lanark militia 31 July 1854'; and a Photograph of George Corsons, etc.

jacot a Paris, a Gorge cased carriage clock the eight-day duration movement, with platform lever escapement, striking the hours and half-hours on a gong with push button repeat, the backplate stamped with the Jacot trademark and serial number 13553, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, Arabic five minute numerals, typical Jacot inner ring and with blued steel spade hands (damaged), the Gorge case with five ribbed handle and repeat serial number to the base, with original numbered key, height 12cm (handle down) 14cm (handle up) * Henri Jacot was one of the most well known and best makers of carriage clocks in the Victorian period with an address at 31, Rue de Montmorency, Paris. The first Henri Jacot died in 1868 and was succeeded by his nephew also Henri. They won many medals at exhibitions in both Paris and London including the Gold medal in 1900.
drocourt, Paris, an engraved Anglaise carriage clock the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half hours on a gong with push button repeat, the backplate stamped with the Drocourt trademark and serial number 14591, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, blued steel moon hands and engraved mask, the Anglaise case fully engraved with c-scroll decoration including to the shaped handle, complete with numbered leather travelling box, height 15cm (handle down) 18.5cm (handle up) * Pierre & Alfred Drocourt were one of the top makers of carriage clocks in the mid to late Victorian period, having a factory at Saint-Nicolas-d’Ailermont, the most important town for carriage clock manufacture at the time, as well as premises in Paris at Rue Debelleyme 28 and Rue de Limoges. They made superb carriage clocks which were often decorative and were awarded numerous medals at exhibitions, such as the Bronze Medal at Paris 1867, the Silver at Paris 1878 and the gold at Paris in 1889. The son, Alfred, succeeded his father Pierre sometime in the 1870’s.
A 19th century perpetual calendar mantel clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, stamped on the backplate ‘J.B.D’, with a visible Brocot escapement to the centre of the two-piece enamel dial, with black Roman numerals, a sweep seconds hand and blued steel moon hands, with a glazed panel below the dial through which is visible the Ellicott style compensating pendulum, with two thermometers set either side of the dial, each with white enamel dials and both signed ‘Paris 1838’, the left-hand side dial showing Reaumur, the right-hand side showing Fahrenheit, with a round barometer dial set to the lower right-hand side having two badges stamped on, one reading ‘E. Bourdon and Richards, Patent, Gold Medal, Paris Exhibition’, the other ‘Council Medal, Universal Exhibition, London, 1851’, and numbered ‘21849’ with a further dial to the left-hand lower having three subsidiary dials showing the moonphase, day and date, with the outer dial marked for the perpetual calendar changes and the month, the black and red marble case of Egyptian influence with pyramid style sides, height 45cms.
A pair and a trio of WWI General Service medals awarded to DVR.AR. Gillard, ASC (016950) together with his Royal Engineer Pair registered 3288 FPR.AR. Gillard RE medal, his dog tag, together with seven brass buttons, an enamel badge and three WWII memorial pamphlets including an In Memorian Order of Service for a ceromony held in Germany, June 1945, XX11 British Liberation Army with printed roll of honour and other related items.

Wyon, 55mm (BHM 3506; E 1817), in original case, virtually mint state, toned; small official medals (3), 1897, 1902, 1935, this boxed; Captain Cook, silver and bronze medals of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand, 1969, Bi-centenary of the rediscovery of New Zealand, bust left, on globe, rev H. Germany, a collector`s album, containing silver coinage, including Prussia, Wilhelm II, 5-Marks (2), 3-Marks (5), 2-Marks and later Third Reich Hindenburg issues, etc; together with base metal issues, nearly filling 11 pages; and a silver portrait medal of Leopold II of Belgium, 1902, the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Coutrai, 50mm, suspension loop and ring. Bath and West of England Agricultural Society, a frosted and glazed silver medal, by J. Milton, "Awarded to Mr George Guard at Yeovil Meeting, 1856, for a Grey Hack Gelding "Saddler", bust of Francis Russell, Duke of Bedford right, rev Britannioa awards wreath to two farm workers, 60mm (BHM 547; Eimer 938), the glass lunettes within (named) silver edge, with ornate suspension loop and ring. Virtually mint state, but peripheral toning to medal.
Ormskirk and Southport Agricultural Society, a frosted and glazed silver medal, "Presented to Mr Saml Clough for the 2nd Best Bull of the short-haired breed - Aug 25th 1857", a farmyard scene, rev legend and, within wreath, engraved inscription, 49mm, the glass lunettes within silver edge, with suspension loop and ring. Virtually mint state, but peripheral toning to meal. The date of the award is the same as the date of the establishment of the Society.
William Pitt (1759-1806), Birmingham Pitt Club, a frosted and glazed silver medal, 1814, by T. Webb, bust left, rev legend in wreath, 52mm (BHM 834; Eimer 1039), the glass lunettes within silver edge, with suspension loop and ring. The medal virtually mint state, but reverse glass cracked and some `dustiness` beneath glass.
The "Telford Medal" of the Institute of Civil Engineers, frosted and glazed silver clichés of the obverse and reverse, 1828, by William Wyon, head of Telford to left, rev the Menai suspension bridge each 56mm (BHM 1328), contained in a presentation maroon leather fitted case. Obverse cliché mint state, the reverse with some marks under the glass, very rare.

The Royal Victorian Order, Commanders` Neck Badge, silver-gilt and enamel, numbered on reverse "1166", in fitted leather case of issue, by Collingwood; Elizabeth II, Coronation Medal, 1953; both extremely fine; WW I, War medal (21045 Pte. C. A. Birch. Manch. R.), water-stained on reverse, very fine. (3)
World War II and later, an RAF and RCAF medical group of 5 medals to Group Captain Ian Hamilton Barclay, comprising: 1939-45 Star, Defence and War medals, Canadian Special Service Medal, with clasp NATO + OTAN, Canadian Forces Decoration, Geo VI, with 10 year clasp, mounted court style, extremely fine; with miniature group (lacking CSSM); together with RCAF cloth wings, wings brooch, buttons and badges, and a ruler. Ian Hamilton Barclay (1915-1999), received a short service commission as a Flying Officer (LG 8/11/38), seconded from the Royal Victorian Infirmary, Newcastle. He served with the BEF and escaped from Rochelle on a coal boat to Cardiff. Promoted Flt. Lt. (20/8/40); Squadron Leader (16/12/41); full CRAF (1/8/44). Also, he is believed to have served in West Africa. After the war he worked in private practice before emigrating to Canada in 1948 where he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force until his retirement as group captain in 1968, when he returned to England, serving a further 12 years as a GP. Whilst in the RCAF in 1960, he was involved in flying a 9 month old child, the provinces first polio case, to hospital in Winnipeg. Boer War and Great War pair; King`s South Africa Medal, clasps 1901, 1902 (483 S. Serjt. R. B. Goodman. Brabant`s Horse); WW I, War medal, S/S.M. R. B. Goodman. S..A.P.C.. Good very fine. (2) Roll confirms, Rueben Bernard Goodman, 2nd Brabant`s Horse; the roll of Jewish soldiers shows him as Rueben Barnett Goodman, F Squadron, Brabant`s Horse.
South Africa Medal, clasp '1879' to Captain H.F.Morewood 57th Foot, fine, offered with numerous original handwritten letters from Zululand, all dated 1879, to his cousin, Charlotte Mahon, including details and battle plan sketch of the infamous 'Battle & Burning of Ulundi' Henry F Morewood 30th Foot, London gazette - promoted captain April 1870. Acting as field officer throughout his service, Morewood joined the 57th Regiment of foot at Fort Tenedos on 9th June 1879 with a draft of 117 men, advanced on Fort Durnford and formed part of Clarkes Column, later taking part in the second advance and the battle and occupation of Ulundi. 171. DUVINAGE LOUIS XV STYLE GILT-BRONZE LADIES DRESSING MIRROR 19th Century. Surmounted by an oval crest, flanked by foliate garlands above two arched doors each painted with a bird amongst flowering plants, opening to reveal triple mirrors. The reverse with hinged easle stand.Duvinage was renowned for its exotic and Japonisme creations in the decorative arts; The type of highly decorative marquetry featured on the present lot was patented in 1877 and was probably first shown at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1878; Ferdinand Duvinage won a silver medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1867.
