A group of World War I and RAF World War II medals and log books etc. to the Fortune family of Rangeworthy, near Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire. The World War I British War and Defence medals to 52051 PTE J.G. Fortune. Glouc. R and 1939 - 45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Burma Star and War medal - all mounted together as worn post-war by Mrs Fortune widow of J G Fortune and mother of Fl/Lt Frederick Charles Fortune, killed on active service 14th May 1945 in Burma. FC Fortunes operationally detailed Piloto Flying Book from 30th March 1941 to 10th May 1945 with operations in Hurricanes with 136 and 176 Sqns. Beaufighters with 176 Sqdn and Mosquitoes with 45 Sqdn, almost completing three tours of duty when his Log Book was stamped - Killed on Active Service - He is well noted in Hurricanes over the Arakan by Norman Franks from/to whom there are several letters. A detailed obituary including last flight and photos of him and his grave, his personal photo album with aircraft and pilots photos, signed 136/176 Sqdn menus, cloth badge Burma area map, Imperial War Graves Commission Far East cemeteries illustrated book etc. plus books - Forgotten Skies, Russell and Jungle Pilot, Sutton. Also a World War II War Medal with slip, in transmission box to F. Officer M.J. Fortune , his two Pilots Flying Log Books from 17th April 1945 to 5th Dec 1952, flying Mosquitoes with 21 and 4 Sqdns including Battle of Britain fly pasts etc. a 140 Wing magazine and signed Xmas 1946 menu. Condition report: Medals in extremely fine condition, F C Fortunes log book with some water stains but all entries clear and legible
