1st Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment October 1914 Officer Casualty Group of Medals. This group was awarded to Captain Cecil Glendower Percival Gilliat a pre war regular Officer who died on the 14th October 1914. Comprising: Indian General Service Medal, clasp "North West Frontier 1908" "2nd LIEUT 1ST R. WAR. R.", 1914 Star, with clasp, "LIEUT R. WAR. R", British War Medal (ERASED NAME), Victory Medal "Capt" Bronze Memorial Plaque " Cecil Glendower Percival Gilliat". The group has been attractively mounted into a glazed frame for display with a copy photograph of Capt whilst serving with the KSLI. Captain Cecil Glendower Percival Gilliat was born in Ireland and originally commissioned into the King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Transferring to the 1st Bn Warwickshire Regiment he saw service on the North West Frontier and at the outbreak of the Great War landed with his Battalion in France on the 22nd August 1914. On the 14th October 1914 now with the rank of Captain the Battalion was fighting near a small village called Meteren. A fellow Officer recorded the events that day "We were attacking a village called Meteren. My company was next to "Glennie's" when I fell. He saw at once, and ran to me with two of his men, and started bandaging my wound. It was a very plucky thing to do, as I was lying in a very exposed place, and the Germans were firing at me all the time. "Glennie" left me after he had put the dressing on, and said he would send some men to carry me back, but he was killed himself, shot through the forehead, when he got back to the trench" On this day the Warwicks would suffer 42 Killed and 85 wounded. Amongst the wounded Officers this day was a Lieutenant Bernard Montgomery, who would survive and attain the rank of Field Marshal.

Also Certificate for the presentation of the BEM March 1957. Francis Roland Hiden BEM was born in 1900 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy in January 1917. He saw sea service as a Signaller during 1918 and after the end of the war remained with the Royal Navy serving on HMS Royal Oak during 1929. In 1930 he transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve and in 1939 returned to sea duty. He was discharged in September 1945. Living in Birmingham he worked at Birmingham main post office and was awarded the BEM in 1957 for his services.

BROWN ". ... Also a small assortment of badges. Band Sergeant Leslie Robert Brown was born in 1909 and enlisted into the Royal Marine Band on the 1st September 1923 entering the RN School of Music. Throughout his long service he undertook sea duties, shore duties and periods at the RN School of Music. He re-engaged in 1939 and his service sheet indicate the award of the RN LS&GC Medal in 1942. His last posting appears to have been RM Barracks Stonehouse 1950. The Great War Medal group awarded to his Father who served with the Royal Marine Artillery from April 1916 until February 1919.
Royal Navy HMS Penelope Quarter Master's Egypt 1882 Medal Clasp "Alexandria 11th July" Awarded to "W. PEEK Qr Mr HMS PENELOPE " Quarter Master William Tongate Peck was born in 1849 and volunteered for service with the Royal Navy in 1865 entering as a Boy 2nd Class. He re-engaged in April 1878. He is confirmed as joining HMS Penelope as a 1st Class Petty Officer on the 21st February 1882 and serving in Egypt with her. The medal roll confirms his name as Peek Quarter Master. He was discharged in 1888.
WW2 H.M. Submarine Spearfish 1940 Casualty Distinguished Service Medal Group of Four Medals. A rare early WW2 Submariners Distinguished Service Medal group awarded to Able Seaman Ernest George Morey, who gallantry in HMS Spearfish saw him in a submarine to U-boat action within minutes of the declaration of war on the 3rd September and would see him been awarded a DSM & MID before his death in August 1940. Comprising: Medal Group. Distinguished Service Medal "AB E G MOREY CJX134230 HMS SPEARFISH", 1939/45 Star, Atlantic Star, War Medal, MID Oak Leaf. Medal group is mounted Court style and accompanied by a large quantity of research. Able Seaman Ernest George Morey a pre war regular sailor was posted to HMS Dolphin for submarine service in May 1938. In October 1938 he joined the crew of HM Submarine Spearfish as a Gun layer 2nd Class. The following year as the Nation awaited the Prime Minster to declare war on Germany September 3rd, Morey and the Spearfish were patrolling the Obrestad line, about four minutes past 11 a German U-boat was encountered and followed a six hour game of cat and mouse at one time the Spearfish was set on a ramming course. The U-boat managed to slip away. On the 22nd September 1939 whilst on patrol the Spearfish was detected by the Germans and had to rest on the seabed and endure two hours and 60 depth charges. With oxygen supply low, the crew had lie down as around them light bulbs shattered and paint flaked from the hull as explosions shook the sub. Surfacing the Captain and crew realised the full damage: main engines knocked out, periscope smashed, wireless unserviceable and leaking like a sieve. The Spearfish was a sitting duck for any German who came along. Despite the situation the crew worked on repairs that would enable them to limp home. Later contact was made and with the assistance of a Fleet rescue the Spearfish reached harbour. It is for this action that Morey was awarded the Mention in Despatches London Gazette 23rd December 1939. Repaired the Spearfish was once again despatched on war patrols. On the 10th April 1940 she was once again picked up by a German anti submarine ship. Again lying on the seabed she endured a pounding from depth charges, the air in the sub becoming foul, with air running out the Captain decided to take the risk and surface early. In the darkness the Captain Lt. Commander J.H. Forbes hoped to slip away, however things changed very quickly as the Watch Officer gained the deck, he was horrified to see the German pocket battleship Lutzow closing fast at 3,000 yards, Forbes without hesitation took up his station ordered the submarine's bows to bear on the Lutzow and fired six torpedoes, a number hitting, damaging the Battleships propellors, in no shape to take advance of the crippled Lutzow Forbes ordered the Spearfish to slip away into the night, the Lutzow would be laid up for a year as she was repaired. The Spearfish returned to base and received a Hero's welcome which was captured on a Pathe' newsreel (Available on YouTube). For this action it is believed Morey received the award of the Distinguished Service Medal, the Captain wrote "Able Seaman Morey G.L.11 For his magnificent example at all times. He was ready and keen to work his gun against all comers. " The announcement of the award appeared in the London Gazette on the 9th May 1940. Having used a great deal of luck HMS Spearfish was ordered to patrol Norwegian waters on the 1st August 1940 she was spotted by the German submarine U.34, lying in wait Spearfish surfaced straight into the German sites, within minutes she was fired upon and a torpedo hit to the bows sealed her fate as she as blown apart. As U.34 sailed through the wreckage one survivor was plucked from the water. Able Seaman Morey DSM, MID, would remain behind in the deep waters with his shipmates and the Spearfish.

WW1 Royal Devon Yeomanry Artillery Army Pilot's Officer's Tunic. A rare tunic worn by Captain D.A. Donald. The servicdress tunic is complete with regimental pattern flat buttons and Capt rank stars against blue backing cloth. To the left breast full size Army Pilots Wings and medal ribbons of the 1939/45 Star, France & Germany Star, War Medal, with MID Oak Leaf. The lining with tailor's label with ink name and date 2/ 40 (February 1940). Good clean condition. Captain D.A. Donald was promoted Acting Captain 8th November 1942. He was MID for North West Europe on two occasions 9/8/45 & 4/4/46.
WW1 1916 Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Attributed Tunic. A good scarce example worn by Major A.G. Wykeham-Musgrove MC. The tunic is the 1916 shoulder rank pattern and tailored in December 1916 in Cairo. Complete with Regimental buttons and to the shoulder straps cloth Major rank badges. The left breast with loop provision for medals or medal bar. The lining with tailor's label and ink name. VGC. Major A.G. Wykeham-Musgrove MC landed at Gallipoli on the 14th August 1915 and joined the 1/1st Royal Gloucestershire Hussars. He was withdrawn on the 12th November 1915 and remained with the Regiment in Egypt. He was awarded the Military Cross and was Mentioned in Despatches on two occasions.

SS Sigrunen collar patch to one side, the other removed; arm with BeVo SS sleeve eagle and aluminium chevron on black. Breast pocket with provision for two awards on central pleat and one other; provision for medal bar. Partial lining stamped in black "H41" and "39 41" over "92" over "67 56" with stamped name on field dressing pocket. Provision for shoulder straps (not present). VGC
