Medals - GVI Distinguished Conduct Medal, 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star + France & Germany clasp, Africa Star + North Africa 1942-43 clasp, War Medal, and GVI Royal Naval Reserve LSGC Medal with 2nd type ribbon. Lot also includes much original paperwork, photos, Service Records, Seamans Record Book, etc. Born Connah Quay, Chester. DSM Gazetted 20th June 1944, original Admiralty letter states DSM awarded for outstanding skill and devotion to duty shown on H.M.S. Tanatside in a successful action with a force of enemy Destroyers on the night of 4th/5th February 1944. He is also shown as serving on the Laconia. Nice lot which needs viewing (qty)

An 1815 Waterloo medal and a Military General Service 1793-1814 medal, both awarded to Charles Wood. The Waterloo medal inscribed `Capt Charles Wood 10th Royal Reg Hussars`; the MGS medal inscribed `C Wood SUBn 52nd Foot ADC & DAAG. The MGS medal also has five clasps: Salamanca, Badajoz, Ciudad, Rodrigo, Fuentes D`onop and Busaco. (The Waterloo medal has replacement clasp and bar suspension). Also included in this lot is a Smithfield Club medallion to Col Wood MP, Littleton, Middlesex 1841 "as Exhibitor of the Best Pig in Extra Stock" and a bronze 1873 medal.

JONES) with oak leaf denoting a mention in despatch, mounted as worn, together with all corresponding paperwork and temporary commission certificates. * No. 735209 Serjt. T.A. Jones, 265th Bde. (late 1st Cheshire Bde) was mentioned in a Despatch from General Sir A.J. Murray dated 28th June 1917 for gallant and distinguished services in the Field.
Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840 One clasp "Trafalgar" Awarded to James Sharman 1785-1867, pressed into service on the "Weasel" frigate. He later served aboard the "Victory", Nelson`s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar, where recent research has confirmed that he was one of the men who carried Lord Nelson down to the Orlop deck, where Nelson died. This brought him to the notice of Captain Hardy, who later, was instrumental in procuring for Sharman the post of caretaker of the Yarmouth Column. It was in Yarmouth that Sharman met Charles Dickens, who was staying at the Royal Hotel at the time. Dickens was fascinated by Sharman, and is said to have based the character of Peggoty on him in his book "David Copperfield". The medal is sold together with Nelson `I am myself a Norfolk Man` by Charles Lewis, and related research on James Sharman.

R.N. H.M.S. ‘Inconstant’ Egypt medal, Khedive Star, The Order Of The White Elephant, badge for The Order of The Dannebrog (Christian IX), miniature for Egypt Medal and Khedive star, together with two other Thai medals, a gentleman’s 18ct gold pocket watch by Dent, monogrammed in enamel to the back LFWS and ‘Maha Chakri’ 7.April 97-16.Dec. 97, a silver cigar case inset with picture of the Thai Royal Yacht ‘Maha Chakri’ to one side and signatures of King Rama V and shipmates and oval inset image of King Rama V, together with another family medal to Lt.Cdr. J. Sanders R.N. George VI General Service Medal with Palestine 1936-39 bar. * LFW Sanders was part of the crew aboard the Thai Royal Yacht ‘Maha Chakri’ During the Visit of King Rama V to Europe.
Rosper Rousell, Paris a shaped glass and brass mantel clock with an eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countweel, the backplate signed ‘Rosper Rousell, Paris’ and stamped with the trademark of the maker of the roulant blanc ‘Vincenti et Cie a Paris’, the white enamel dial with repeat maker’s signature, gilt Roman numerals, brass moon hands and a decorative centre, the shaped case with glass panels having pierced and engraved gilt brass mounts set behind, with two gilt-metal putti to the front examining a bee-hive and further gilt-metal mounts to the case, standing on a shaped gilded base, height 50cm.* Vincenti set up his factory producing roulant blancs in Montbeliard in 1823 but went bankrupt a year later, whereupon the clock manufacturer Roux took on the management. They were awarded a silver medal for their movements at the Paris Exhibition of 1824. Vincenti died in 1834.
