A Second World War MM Group of Eight Medals, awarded to 6089761 Corporal Frank Shepherd, 1st-5th Battalion the Queen's Royal Regiment, comprising Military Medal (Immediate Award) in original box of issue dated 21.12.44 with Buckingham Palace letter and Recommendation form, 1939-45 Star, Africa Star with clasp 8TH ARMY, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal with MID oak leaf and MID certificate to Lance-Corporal F Shepherd,published in the London Gazette 6 April 1944, with original postage box and medal slip, and Efficiency Medal with TERRITORIAL suspender bar, together with a letter and signed photograph from Field Marshall Montgomery showing him awarding Frank the MM, various letters of congratulation, photographs, newspaper cuttings and numerous pieces of ephemera including his Territorial Calling Out Notice 25th August 1939, menus, Programmes of Special Performances for British Troops etc, also his cap and collar badges, brass shoulder titles, cloth insignia, rank chevrons, his dog tags, medal ribbon bars etc; a First World War Pair, of British War Medal and Victory Medal awarded to 45087 PTE.W.SHEPHERD, R.IR.FUS, father of the above, in original postage box of issue.Footnote:- The recommendation form relating to 6089761 L/Cpl. Frank Shepherd reads "On the Falaise road, south of CAEN on 26 July 1944, the battalion formed part of a firm base behind 22 Armd Bde. This position was under direct enemy observation and consequently it was subjected to intense shelling throughout the whole day. L/Cpl. Shepherd was at Bn.HQ in command of a party of stretcher-bearers, and as considerable casualties were incurred by the Bn. during the day, many calls were made upon him. In spite of continuous heavy shelling, and with complete disregard for his own safety, L/Cpl. Shepherd moved about the area, attending to the wounded and arranging for their evacuation. His constant cheerfulness, devotion to duty and fearless example was an inspiration to all the men, and by his action he was undoubtedly responsible for saving the lives of many of his companions."
