Thomas (13732), 7th North Stafford Regiment, Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R.; 1914-15 Star; British War and Victory Medals, in original card box of issue (4). D.C.M. London Gazette 29 August 1917: For conspicuous gallantry in action. He took command when all his Officers had become casualties and in a fearless manner beat off an enemy counter attack setting a very fine example.

Military General Service Medal, 1793-1814, 3 clasps, Busaco, Pyrenees, Toulouse (A. Sutherland, 42nd Foot.). Some scuffs and bruises, very fine. Alexander Sutherland. The MGS Roll records the medal with 3 clasps, though Corunna not Busaco, as being sold at Glendining`s in July, 1940. The Roll records "Late pension WO 116/61 "Severely wounded". Another WO 120 6th Veteran Bn. Sep 1814 "Worn out and defective sight" "
Waterloo Medal, 1815 (Ewan MacDonald. 1st Bat. 92nd Highlanders.), old replacement silver clip, original (?) steel ring. Very fine. The 92nd, or more famously, the Gordon Highlanders made the charge at La Haye Sainte with the Scots Greys, when "a great cry went up "Scotland for Ever," and the Gordon Highlanders seized hold of the stirrups of the Scots Greys as they gave back the cry; and all together the whole thundering mass of men and horses, sabres, bayonets and muskets were hurled into the midst of the French lines". BBM records that of a Unit strength of 588, 441 were wounded or killed.
South Africa Medal, 1877-1879, 1 clasp 1877-8-9 (1736 Corpl H. Richardson. 1/24th Foot.), naming engraved in slanting capitals. Very fine. Corporal (Pioneer) Henry Richardson, one of 15 corporals of the 416 men of the 1/24th Foot killed at Isandhlwana on 22nd January 1879, had had a chequered military career. Promoted to Corporal in December 1871 he was reduced to Private in July 1873. He re-joined the Regiment "from desertion" in February 1877 and had regained the rank of Corporal within a month. After Isandhlwana, a published statement by a survivor, one Private J Bickley, shows that Richardson had found a horse to flee the slaughter, but fell and, because of wounds in his arm, he was unable to re-mount and was last seen lying on the ground.

(2) Second with Regimental `Memorandum` of dispatch and response, "I conclude you are aware that your predecessor insisted on my retirement… The medal … is therefore either an apology or a further insult, and is returned herewith.".
