Good 9th Essex Home Guard British Empire Medal correctly named: 'C.Q.M.S. William Edwards H.G.' and a WW2 Defence Medal, Citation as follows: 'Company Quarter Master Sergeant William Edwards. 9th Battalion Essex Home Guard (Mistley)' 'This NCO has rendered most valuable service to his company ever since its formation. In addition to carrying out his normal duties in a most efficient & conscientious manner, he has lent accommodation for stores, vehicles & officers, provided transport, labour & materials of all kinds free of charge and allowed use of ground for training. He has acted in a most helpful and generous manner throughout.' His address was Rookery Farm, Ardleigh, Essex. Award in London Gazette of 15th December 1944. Sold with copied research.
OBE Group to the diplomat Major Frederick Charles Leslie Chauncy. Indian unattached list. Group comprises: OBE, 1939/45 Star. Defence & War Medal (1939-45) and 1953 Coronation Medal (unnamed as issued). He was also awarded the C.B.E. Medals mounted as worn. Accompanying the medals are a free standing mahogany (?) frame containing 20 Sporting Medals, a number of them named F.C.L. Chauncy' including his Army Championship 'Silver' medal for the 125yds hurdles. Other medals from RMC Sandhurst, interservices Athletics Championship and 4x hallmarked silver school medals to Chauncy. In 1928 Chauncy represented England at the Amsterdam Olympic Games having won the AAA 440 yds hurdles at the annual championship. He reached the semi final but was eliminated by the first 3 runners home in the final. He had a distinguished Army & Diplomatic Career. Born 1904, IPS 1930 Political Agents Chattisgarh States 1945-7 (letter in British Library containing anecdotes of his career 1928-30 Rattrays Sikhs 1930-37 Indian Police Service served Persian Gulf, NW Frontier & Indian States 1949-58 Consul General at Muskat 1961-70 Personal advisor to Sultan of Muscat & Oman CBE 1958.
1915 Star and Victory Medal to 2213 Pte F W Beckett Suffolks (number corrected to Victory Medal). Served with 5th Bn, later a Sgt with the MGC. Entitled to the Military Medal, L/G 2/4/18 for Egypt, won with 163rd Coy MGC. This award won with 54th Div for operations in Nov/Dec 1917, 3rd Battle of Gaza, Capture of Gaza, Battle of Jaffa. 1915 Star Trio to 12134 Pte A E Reeve Norfolk Regt. Entitled to the Military Medal and Bar. MM plus Bar both L/G 12/6/18 with 7th Bn Norfolks. Awards for the March Offensive fighting with 35th Bde 12th Eastern Div during the 1st Battle of the Somme 1918. Unusual for both awards to be in the same Gazette. MM one of 9 awards for the action and the Bar is one of 8 awards for the action. Mounted for display purposes with a copy Military Medal and Bar. With research. EF (3+1)
Africa - Rhodesia: Rhodesian General Service Medal to MAJ. A. M. DUTHIE. Major Ashley Mackintosh Duthie, Medical Doctor. Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons who served in the Rhodesian Army Medical Corps circa mid 1960’s into Early 70’s. He was also a lecturer at the Godfrey Huggins School of Medicine at the University of Rhodesia in Salisbury (Harare). Major Duthie was also Para qualified. Small edge bruise. NEF.
