George V Indian General Service medal with one clasp - North West Frontier 1930 - 1931, named to F / O. L. Newcombe. R.A.F., together with two Pilots' log books, dating from 3rd September 1926 until 21st March 1938. They contain details of Flying Officer Newcombe's R.A.F. career, including bombing runs and on one occasion , being shot through his petrol tank. Also, a photograph album full of photographs of India from the air, along with various shots of aircraft and two letters from Indian servants to Flight Officer Newcombe contained within. Peers Royal Artillery to include the Atlantic Star, Burma Star, Italy Star, 39-45 War Medal, 39-45 Star together with the France and Germany Clasp, issued by the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency to his surviving relative, complete with a period prayer book for Catholic seafarers and a leather bound volume "Little Treasury of Leaflets", also three 20th century crowns.

Sir John Evans (1823-1908), eminent numismatist, archaeologist and son of Sir Arthur Evans was president of the Numismatic Society of London (now the Royal Numismatic Society) from 1874 and was awarded their medal in 1887; he was author of The Coins of the Ancient Britons, published 1864 (with Supplement, 1890); also of The Ancient Stone Implements, Weapons and Ornaments of Great Britain, 1872 and 1897 editions and of The Ancient Bronze Implements, Weapons and Ornaments of Great Britain, 1881; all of his works are still of considerable value today. Almost as struck, brown tone.

Edge: plain, impressed SILVER at six o'clock; in original Spink case of issue, with leaflet. BCM 2104. 179 grams total (medal 80.87 grams, 58mm). The official medal, issued on the death of Churchill; the reverse design is taken from the famous cartoon by Sir David Low, published in the Evening Standard, after the retreat from Dunkirk in 1940. [No Reserve] As struck, small nick to obverse edge.

This medal was granted to military or civilian personnel for the acts of gallantry on the battlefield; instituted in 1807, the medal was changed to 'yellow metal' (and marked JM) after 1916. Very fine; knock to edge. Rare.
