Three solid silver and gold medals from Newburgh Golf Club, Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The first medal is engraved "Newburgh Golf Club 1921" hallmarked Birmingham 1921 makers mark WHH for WH Haseler of Birmingham. The second engraved Newburgh Golf Club 1925 hallmarked Birmingham 1924 maker WH Haseler of Birmingham. Initials JAGFR engraved in gold cartouche. The third medal engraved Newburgh Golf Club 1926 hallmarked Birmingham 1925 and makers mark JWT for James Walter Tiptaft of Birmingham. Newburgh-on-Ythan Golf Club was founded in 1888 and was originally a nine hole course of 1 mile and 401 yards in length. The course was laid out on the Newburgh Links which is located just East of the village between the Foveran Burn and the River Ythan.

The second trials medal for 1927 the crew Michell (Caius), Aldous (Selwyn) {Boat Race 1928}, Fitwilliam (Trinity), Lane (Trinity), Warriner (Trinity) { {Olympic gold medal at the 1928 Summer Olympics coxless fours and Boat Race 1928, 1929 & 1930}, Beesly (Trinity) Bevan (Trinity) {Olympic gold medal at the 1928 Summer Olympics coxless fours and Boat Race 1927}, Haigh (Kings) & Griggs (Jesus). The third medal for the Jesus Crew "Head of Lent Races 1927 the crew Griggs, Harrison, Mackinnon, Bryant, Williams, Harsby, Ashton, Clark and Hayne. Plus eleven buttons, six bronze with the Griggs family crest and motto "Secundo curo" on the reverse Firmin & Sons and AP Wicks Regent St London. From its earliest days in 1655, Firmin & Sons has become the undisputed world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of all forms of uniform buttons for ceremonial and parade use. Five livery buttons with a silver bird in relief on the reverse L&F Cole Silversmiths Cambridge. Two further Griggs family crests with lion head, sword and crossed plumes. Also included are copies from a page from the "Ilustrated Sporting & Dramtic News 1926" featuring the Lent races and copy of the picture of the Trial 8's crews from 1927. Frank Griggs was the last member of the Griggs family to own the Gloucester timber importing business Joseph Griggs and Son
Superb collection of six medals for prominent amateur golfer D.M.Stewart. Three bronze Far & Sure 'Amateur Scottish Golf Championship Semi Finalist" medals awarded to Stewart in 1909, 1912 & 1913. The rims of two engraved 'Presented by the Proprietors of the Dundee Evening Telegraph.' In 1909 Robert Maxwell was champion and in 1913 the championship was held at Royal Montrose. A silver medal for 'Eden Course Tournament' played over the world famous St Andrews links engraved to 'D.M.Stewart' Birmingham 1923. First played nearly 100 years ago in 1919, the Eden Tournament for gentleman golfers became one of the most important events in the Scottish calendar and has remained a popular amateur event for many local and visiting golfers to St Andrews. A 'Lennel Golf Club' enamelled lapel members badge by Thomas Fattorini.Lennel Golf Club, Coldstream, Scottish Borders opened early 1900's and closed 1950's. Finally an Edinburgh University bronze medal 'Mineralogy & Crystallography D.M.Stewart 1908' with case.
A silver gilt and enamel medal won by the legendary Ken Traill of Bradford Northern for winning the Challenge Cup in 1948-49. Ken played as a loose forward for Bradford between 1947 and 1955 and before that for Hunslet. He later went on to play for Halifax and Wakefield. Ken also played for England on 4 occasions. He was the coach of Wakefield Trinity from 1958 to 1970 winning Challenge Cup, Championship, Yorkshire Cup and Yorkshire League. The medal is in excellent condition and in original makers (Fattorini) box (damage to lid). A one off opportunity to acquire a great item of rugby league memorabilia.
Harry Weetman collection of five of his winners medals. Weetman's 1957 German Open winners medal with laurel border and "DGV" (Deutsche Golf Verband - German Golf Association) to the front and "Offene Meisterschaft Von Deutschland" (Open Championship of Germany) and Koln-Refrath 1957" (venue for the 1957 German Open). Measures 4.5cm across. Golf Society of Great Britain "Slazenger Trophy" 9ct solid gold winners medal for 1956. The Slazenger Trophy was contested between teams from the British Isles v Commonwealth & Empire at the 1932 Open Championship venue Princes Golf Club, Sandwich. Professional Golfers Association hallmarked solid silver winners medals for the "Assistants Championship" for 1949 and 1950. Croydon Alliance Open Championship winners silver hallmarked medal for 1951. These rare medals were gifted to the previous owner by Harry Weetmans wife who was a close friend of the previous owner. Weetman won many tournaments on the British PGA circuit in the pre-European Tour era and won the Harry Vardon Trophy for lowest stroke average in 1952 and 1956. He finished in the top-10 at The Open Championship six times. Weetman played in the Ryder Cup in 1951, 1953, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961 and 1963. He captained the team in 1965. Weetman died in Redhill hospital on 19 July 1972 after being involved in a car accident on the Caterham bypass on 14 July. A superb collection of medals.
