Although he was a strict disciplinarian and insisted on things being thoroughly done, he always did the most dangerous work himself, such as going in front of his trench to put up the barbed wire, with the result that his men had absolute confidence in him. he did some particularly daring sniping work, which resulted in him being twice grazed by the German snipers, once in the head. For this work his name was sent to the General.” Provenance; this lot is being sold on behalf of the Royal Star and Garter Homes a charity providing the very best nursing and dementia care to veterans and their partners.
